SMDGI has been appointed Receiver for over 100 properties in the counties of Cook, Kane, DuPage and Will, with engagements spanning from the far south suburbs to Chicago’s north shore. Scott McNaughton, founder, and owner of SMDGI has a lifetime of experience in real estate. His most recent activities include experience across the residential and commercial segments of real estate as a Developer of new properties, a commercial and residential General Contractor, a Broker, and as an Owner of numerous multifamily properties in the Chicagoland Area. Prior to founding SMDGI, Scott graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. As a construction manager for James McNaughton Builders, Inc., Scott managed the construction of over 30 homes ranging from quaint bungalows in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood to multimillion-dollar estate homes in Chicago’s western suburbs. Scott is currently co-owner of Tartan Builders, Inc., a residential real estate development firm that he started with his brother in 2012.

•SMDGI Engagement Highlight• SMDGI was appointed Receiver after the prior receiver elected to cease his involvement with the property. Always willing to “get our hands dirty” we agreed to take it on and embarked on our mission right away. The subject property was in very poor condition and upon SMDGI being appointed only 13 of the 40 SRO units were formally occupied. Aside from the numerous tenant related issues encountered; squatting, trespassing, theft, property damage, drug use, & prostitution, the building itself had numerous operational/structural issues including building code violations, fire safety issues, mechanical failures, security issues and a lack of cleanliness. In harmony with the City of Chicago (CFD, CPD, DOB) and various Tenants Rights Groups, the building was formally vacated, cleaned up to broom swept condition, and secured with all utilities to the property shut down before the property was sold to an investor. This is just one of the various engagements SMDGI has had the privilege of undertaking and overseeing and we look forward to many more.
