ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION The Power of Removing What Holds You Back We often think about success, growth, and improvement as an additive process - adding more skills, more habits, more strategies, more tools, more everything. But what if a big part to leveling up, is not adding ... but removing? Think about it: How many times have you felt dazed, overwhelmed, stuck, or like you were spinning your wheels? More often than not, it’s not because you need something extra - it’s because you’re carrying too much. The wrong people, unhealthy foods, bad habits, stupid distractions, mental clutter, and a bunch of unnecessary burdens/stuff can hold you back more than you realize. So, let's fix that. And here's one way. This weekend, take some quality time to deeply reflect on what’s dragging you down and holding you back.To help you make that happen, try this simple exercise. Grab your journal and make three lists: 1. People Who in your life (yes, even family members) is draining your energy, brings negativity, and impedes your growth? 2. Foods What do you put in your body (all things digestible) that makes you sluggish or you know that isn't good for you? 3. Habits What actions, mindsets, and/or routines are keeping you from feeling, doing, and being your best in work and life? When you do this exercise, there's no sugarcoating things. No excuses. No bullshit. Just brutal honesty. Once you have your lists, pick at least one or two items from each category and commit to removing them: NOW! Yes: NOW! Not next month. Not “when life calms down.” Do. It. Now. Think about it. Ever notice how much better life gets when you stop hanging around that one toxic friend? How much clearer your mind feels when you cut back on crappy foods? How much better your mood is when you don't just scroll on your phone to start or end the day? Removing what doesn’t serve you ... Creates the space for what does: ? Less negativity = More energy ? Less junk foods = More vitality ? Less distractions = More focus Now, once you remove 1-2 items from each of the 3 categories, here's the reality: it takes about 45 - 90 days for most of these types of changes to stick, assuming you have the discipline to stick with the removal process. Indeed, real significant change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes consistent action. But when you commit to subtracting the right wrongs for an extended period, the results can/should/will be - truly significant. To note, the goal of an "addition by subtraction" mantra isn’t to remove everything and live in some extreme minimalist vacuum. The goal is balance and harmony; keeping what adds value and eliminating what doesn’t. BTW: Some subtractions will be easier to remove than others. And some will take more time. That’s A-OK. Progress over perfection. And remember: anything you lose by improving yourself isn't a loss, it's an alignment. You got this. Make It So. #Habits #Discipline #MomentsToMomentum #Growth

Skiing and Business Ownership: Solo Sports That Require LMTA There’s something exhilarating about skiing—just you, the mountain, and the challenge ahead. Business ownership feels much the same way. In both, you chart your own course, make your own decisions, and are ultimately responsible for your success (or failure). But here’s the paradox: while skiing and being a founder/entrepreneur, are inherently solo sports - thriving in either requires an appreciation for working with others. Four key areas where this connection is undeniable: 1. Leadership – Setting the Course On the slopes, every turn and decision dictate your path. As owner, you set the vision and direction. But even the best skiers take advice from coaches, study the terrain, and adjust based on conditions. Leaders do the same - seeking input, adapting & guiding their team with clarity. 2. Management – Controlling Speed and Stability A skilled skier knows when to push forward and when to control speed for stability. Business is no different. Managing a company means knowing when to accelerate and when to apply the brakes to ensure sustainable growth. And just like on the slopes, ignoring warning signs or failing to adjust can lead to a crash, or worse. 3. Teamwork – Navigating with Awareness Even in a solo sport like skiing, awareness of others is key. You’re sharing the mountain, adjusting to unpredictable movements, and sometimes relying on fellow skiers or even the ski patrol, for help. In business, teamwork operates the same way. While you may be the one doing all the work and carving the path, surrounding yourself with the right people - mentors, advisors, and a capable team - ensures a smoother, more confident ride. 4. Accountability – Owning the Outcome If you nail the perfect run or take a hard fall, there’s no one to blame but yourself (yes, even if the mistake was technically someone else's fault). Skiing and ownership both demand personal accountability. The best founders, like the best skiers, own their mistakes, learn from them, and get back up ready to tackle the next challenge. Skiing may be a solo sport, but the best skiers appreciate the role of good leadership, management, teamwork, and accountability (LMTA). The same goes for business ownership and running a successful company. So, whether you’re carving turns or carving out a company, remember: while the ride may be yours alone, the journey is best with the right people and great LMTA. PS: This post was actually written during a ski break, on the top of a 13,000 foot mountain in Breckenridge. And yes, that person in the picture is a very fortunate me. #Leadership #BusinessOwnership #Teamwork #Accountability #Entrepreneurship #BOSUP

  • DONATE BLOOD If you have time over lunch or after work, go donate blood. And don’t just do it because other humans desperately need blood, do it for yourself, as well! Yes, donating blood can be beneficial for the donor in several ways, in addition to helping other humans live. Here are some donor benefits: 1. Health Monitoring Before donating, donors undergo a mini-health check, including blood pressure, pulse, hemoglobin levels, and sometimes cholesterol. This can help identify potential health issues early (like leading indicators in business). 2. Iron Regulation Regular blood donation can help reduce excess iron levels in the body. Too much iron (a condition called hemochromatosis) can be harmful and increase the risk of certain health issues like heart disease and anemia. 3. Cardiovascular Health Some studies suggest that donating blood might help reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes by lowering iron stores and improving blood flow and circulation. 4. Calorie Burn Donating blood burns approximately 500 calories per donation. While it’s obviously not a weight-loss method, it does have a metabolic and negative caloric impact. 5. Psychological Benefits Donating blood can boost your energy, morale and sense of well-being, by giving you a validation of purpose, cause and satisfaction from helping others in need. If you’re healthy and meet donation requirements, donating blood is generally safe and beneficial for both the donor and the recipients. Always consult with a healthcare professional if you have medical concerns. PS: As an extra perk, they usually give you a cookie (or two) and something cold or warm to drink when done! #DonateBlood #DonateBloodSaveLives

REMOVE THE PEBBLES I??this quote. It reminds me that it’s often the small things - not the big things - that mess-us-up and negatively impacts our energy, focus, and attitude. The mountains represent our larger goals, objectives, aspirations and big obstacles that we know are coming and have prepared ourselves to tackle and accomplish. The pebbles are the tiny, persistent irritations, daily frustrations, and unresolved issues we ignore. By acknowledging and resolving these small, manageable problems - be it self-doubt, procrastination, confusion, disagreements, etc. - we create the freedom to focus on the bigger climb. It’s about mindfulness, alignment, and self-awareness: recognizing that these “pebbles” might seem insignificant, but can accumulate into something that holds us back from achieving our best in work & life. This quote encourages us to occasionally stop, check our “shoes,” and remove the small irritants before they sabotage our journey. When the pebbles are gone, the mountains are more manageable and easier to conquer. PS: Sundays are a great day to check for pebbles. So on Monday, we can be laced-up and ready to climb great! #MomentsToMomentum #PrepareToProsper
