Scotland Health is proud to announce construction will begin soon on a state-of-the-art Endoscopy Center, set to be built on Lauchwood Drive, across the road from Scotland Memorial Hospital. This new facility will also house Scotland Surgical and GI, offering expanded access and capacity to better serve our local communities. Dr. Shelly Lowery, Chief Medical Officer of Scotland Health, expressed excitement for the project, highlighting the increased office and procedure space that will support the growth of Scotland's general surgery and endoscopic services. The 16,000-square-foot building will feature 20 exam rooms, 6 physician offices, and modern procedure rooms to enhance patient care and operational efficiencies. With a completion date slated for late summer 2026, Scotland Health looks forward to the enhanced services and opportunities this new facility will bring to the region. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting development.

Congratulations to our newest The Scotland Way in Action Award winner! Gloria works in dietary services at Scotland Memorial Hospital. A portion of her nomination read: Gloria interacts with patients and families daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner preferences. She develops appropriate social relationships with the patients which embodies the compassionate, high-quality care that Scotland provides. An outpatient client came to the hospital for a procedure and had a personal, emotional outburst response. The client had lost her mother 2 months prior at the hospital and wanted to find the nursing staff that took care of her mother and tell them that she appreciated all of the excellent services that were provided. Due to her emotional response to returning to the hospital she was upset and unable to follow the directions provided by our staff (causing her to lose her way in the hospital). Gloria was able to connect with the outpatient client and assist with escorting her to the elevator and back to the first floor to be with her family. Thank you Gloria for being present for all of our patients and guests with every encounter.

Scotland Health honors a DAISY Award recipient quarterly. This quarter’s DAISY Award honoree is Kaytlin Short, RN. She was recognized this morning by hospital executives and her coworkers for her work ethic and compassion and for going well out of her way to help her patients and their loved ones. Her nomination letter read: "Waiting for the impending death of a family member is never easy. I sat in the hospital as a family member as well as a healthcare worker. I understood the reality of the situation and that death was near, while the rest of my family still had hope for a full recovery. Having a nurse that would talk medically to me, speak reality to me, comfort me, comfort my family, and try and help them understand…that’s what got me through the final day of my grandmother’s life. Kaytlin was a jewel. Without any knowledge of my background, when I walked into the ICU for the first time, she explained every tube and why it was there. She introduced me to the ventilator and all the settings. She explained all the labs to me and reiterated what the doctor said. My grandmother took a quick decline, and Kaytlin came and found me. She sat with me in the waiting room and gave me all the facts and where we could go from there. She asked what we wanted as a family. She came back and saw me before she left, one hour after her shift should’ve ended. She was my peace. She was why I could walk into ICU room 5 and find peace." Congratulations and Thank You Kaytlin!
