With SCORE’s guidance, Octavia Richmond transformed her vision of community support into Buttons and Threads Thrift Store. “SCORE was a game-changer for me and Buttons and Threads,” Octavia shares. With the help of her certified SCORE mentor, she crafted a business plan, developed financial forecasts and gained the confidence to bring her dream to life. Since opening in January 2024, Buttons and Threads has become a hub for affordable shopping and community empowerment. The store’s initiatives have provided essentials to over 400 individuals, with proceeds funding homeless services in the area. In less than a year, they have exceeded their goals. “I could not have done it without SCORE’s mentorship and resources, and I am forever grateful for their role in our journey,” Octavia adds.
