Investing in the Transition to a Low Carbon Economy
关于我们
ScopeFour Capital is a diverse owned asset manager based in Los Angeles. Fueled by the belief that decarbonization represents a multi-decade secular trend, our firm identifies and actively invests in global public companies scaling economically viable and currently impactful climate solutions. The firm is a trusted conduit for investors who want to participate in climate-aligned economic growth while generating real world impact in a measurable way. Our core advantages include: ? Specialization We are a team of climate-focused professionals who solely focus on investing in companies poised to benefit from the transition to a net zero economy. Given the lack of transparency and uniformity in public companies on supply chain, revenue streams and carbon emissions, we believe bottom-up fundamental analysis and diversification by theme is the best means to generate alpha. ? Science-Led Approach As decarbonization efforts are implemented globally, different climate mitigation and adaptation tools will be used depending on the region, applicability, cost, and policy. To stay current on evolving technologies and initiatives, the investment team is supported by the ScopeFour Climate Council and facilitates regular dialogue with a variety of science-based organizations. ? Climate Taxonomy We developed a proprietary framework called our Climate Taxonomy. The taxonomy is informed by two independent, science-based emissions reduction quantification initiatives (Project Drawdown and CRANE). Using these sources, ScopeFour has classified and quantified the Emissions Reductions Potential (ERP) of over 100 climate solutions deemed economically viable. Our solutions are bucketed into six key investment themes: Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, Green Infrastructure, Clean Technology, Discretionary Consumer and Sustainable Ecosystems.

Over 148 countries and almost 4,700 global public companies have commitments to reduce GHG emissions. This wave of commitment is driving tailwinds for companies scaling climate solutions and as a result, earnings growth expectations for these companies are 2-4x higher than the MSCI ACWI. https://lnkd.in/gxWPgRDi

The Heat is On: A Case for Climate Investing in 2024 The business of decarbonization has emerged to become one of the most significant growth drivers of our generation. Amidst an acceleration of global commitment to net zero and unprecedented policy tailwinds for innovation, trillions of dollars are being invested to address climate change. This spending has initiated a meaningful capital expenditure cycle that touches all parts of the global economy, including renewable energy and storage, energy efficient buildings, waste management, transportation electrification and regenerative agriculture. Companies able to supply the demand for climate solutions will see benefits from the increased capital expenditure, including improved efficiency, lower operating costs, and a scaling of their technologies that can ultimately lead to higher sales and profitability. We believe the market will value this profitability and these companies will outperform. We offer several proof points to underscore the conditions supporting today’s markets as the opportune time for investing in climate solutions. Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/gxWPgRDi

Earlier this summer, we held our quarterly meeting with the ScopeFour Climate Council. Our council members, comprised of climate professionals, scientists and academics, never fail to impart relevant and thought-provoking nuggets that we incorporate into our investment process. We’d like to spotlight one of our council members, Seth Sheldon, founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Rho Impact. Seth possesses deep expertise in environmental sciences and specializes in leveraging data and analytics to empower climate-related decision-making. He’s been instrumental in guiding development of CRANE tool, which helps investors and companies assess climate technologies for their impact on reducing carbon emissions. During the council meeting, we covered a variety of topics, including trends in climate tech and how physical climate risk is increasingly showing up in everyday life. Check out our full article to read Seth’s insights in these areas.

London calling! We were encouraged by the more centrist Labour Party’s recent win in the United Kingdom elections. The U.K. election is especially worth highlighting, as it has important implications for the country’s climate agenda. There are two key takeaways from these developments: climate capital expenditures are tangible and quantifiable to 2030 (which gives investors great visibility) and voters are signing off on these plans. Dive into our recent article for more color on how U.K. policy will help shape global investment in climate solutions.
