Last week marked ten years since Rob Sadow and I set out to build Scoop. Leaving our jobs at Google and Bain was exhilarating — and terrifying. Were we about tomake a huge mistake? The decade that followed was a wild ride of highs, lows, excitement, challenges, disappointment, and fulfillment. Scoop evolved through many early iterations, but our mission remained the same: reimagining the way employees commute. We believed technology could finally crack the carpooling challenge, and from 2015 to 2020, we built Scoop into the largest enterprise carpooling platform in existence. We were facilitating millions of trips per year, partnering with major companies to improve commutes, reduce parking demand, and minimize environmental impact. Then, COVID hit. Hard. It upended everything. 2020 was brutal, but Scoop’s incredible culture and team carried us through. The biggest lesson? The true impact of building a company lies in bringing people together to chase an ambitious, nearly impossible goal. We ultimately sold the Scoop Commute business, and pivoted to focus our energy on the newly evolving topic of hybrid work. Each generation of our team — those who built our foundation, those who helped us navigate COVID, and those who tackled the complexities of hybrid — carried forward Scoop’s DNA: transparency, impact, and individual growth. The hybrid years brought their own challenges, but they also led us to something new. Our iteration in hybrid work led to Flex Index, which has filled a real need in the flexible work community. The data and benchmarks we’ve created help companies and employees navigate this evolving landscape, and our data has become the standard for reporting at major publications on the evolution of work and the office. We’re so proud of what we’ve built with Flex Index. At the same time, it’s been a long journey. After a lot of deep discussion between us, we’ve made the decision that it’s time for something new. Rob and I are each moving on to new pursuits (more to come on that soon), and Flex Index will soon have a new chapter. Looking back, we never could have predicted this journey. But through it all, we’re most grateful for the incredible people who shaped Scoop and Flex Index — our team, investors, users, and supporters. Seeing careers and relationships flourish within our companies has meant everything. It’s been a privilege to build this alongside my brother, Rob. This chapter may be closing, but the relationships, the culture, and the energy we put into building great teams and products live on. As my close friend David Clavens would say, onward.
