Hope Media Group installs their 3rd GatesAir FLX Liquid Cooled transmitter in Florida. WAYT serving Tallahassee, was looking to add HD to their signal and replace their aging tube type transmitter. Paul Matthews, HMG Regional Eng Mgr said, we chose FLX again because adding HD to our system in Florida raises our cooling and electrical costs. Had we gone with an air cooled transmitter we would have had to purchase a 15kw transmitter system. Using FLX efficiencies we can stay with a 10kW rig, maintain -14db injection, and it helps mitigate those expenses. We’ve found liquid cooled transmitters help reduce costly HVAC emergencies. Hope Media Group’s WAYA, servicing listeners in Charleston, SC, lost it’s 25-year-old Harris HT25CD Tube Transmitter. Phil Jennings, VP of Eng for Hope Media called Doug Tharp, at SCMS, and ordered a new FAX30K solid-state transmitter. GatesAir was able to arrange an immediate shipment that arrived in Charleston 5 days later. Paul Matthews, Regional Eng Manager and Wayne Traywick, Houston staff engineer, flew in and removed the HT25, installed the FAX30K, and got WAYA on the air. Paul mentioned, “It was really easy to position the new FAX30K split configuration into place and have the transmitter making radio.”
