???????? ???? ?????????? ?????? ??????????????, ???????????? ?????????????? Last week, our company SCIEX, had the privilege to support this year’s Toy Buffet event organized by Food From the Heart - a non-profit charity in Singapore. The event is an annual gift-giving and toy donation drive for the organization’s children beneficiaries. This year’s theme is “Monstrous Mayhem: Brave the Unknown” - a message to encourage the children (and children at heart) to face the monsters and the unknowns they may face like the challenges and struggles at school and at home. With courage and resilience, they can overcome it. The theme resonated with me so much. It reminded me of the monsters and the unknowns I had to face as a kid and now as a grown-up adult. When I was seven, I stood on stage for a competition, feeling scared and often running to my mom in tears about participating in the inter-school Quiz Bee. I was worried I wouldn’t win and would embarrass both myself and my school. Despite wanting to quit, my supportive teacher and mom encouraged me to join. My teacher even spent extra time after school training me. Although it was nerve-wracking, I eventually won. Two years ago, another monster tested my courage and resilience. I initially feared about moving from the Philippines to Singapore for work. Whether I could succeed as a foreigner living alone in another country and adapting to a new way of living and working overseas terrified me at that time. The next 2-5 years outside my comfort zone scares me at times. These monsters and unknowns fueled me to become stronger. I achieved this by remembering my big WHYs of making the big move. Joining the Toy Buffet event as a volunteer allowed me to reflect on the time I decided to brave the unknown of moving overseas. Because I overcame these monsters, I can immerse myself in the community, meet new people, learn the culture, and give back. Have you had moments in your career or personal life when you faced the unknown? ??
