Want to help the chemicals sector to decarbonize and prevent the worst effects of climate change? The SBTi is again inviting feedback to inform our Chemicals Sector Criteria for setting 1.5°C-aligned science-based targets. We’re seeking expert input to shape the next phase of the criteria development, including pilot testing and final release. ?? Stakeholders across the chemicals industry, finance, academia and civil society are asked to participate in this consultation, running from November 12 to Jan 10, 2025. We look forward to hearing from a diverse range of voices. ?? Science Based Targets initiative

Enabling organizations to take swift climate action by setting ambitious emissions reduction targets.
关于我们
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. We develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and reach net-zero by 2050 at latest. The SBTi is incorporated as a charity, with a subsidiary which will host our target validation services. Our partners are CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Last week at #COP29 in Azerbaijan, SBTi Chief Technical Officer Alberto Carrillo Pineda joined a panel of experts to discuss the challenges of tackling scope 3 emissions. ?? Here are a few key takeaways from Alberto’s discussion: ? Companies are on the right path by embracing transparency and engaging their supply chains to tackle scope 3 emissions. However, though more and more companies are measuring and setting scope 3 targets, challenges remain in data collection and defining the right indicators. ? One of those challenges is companies lack refined guidelines to measure and report scope 3 emissions across different segments of their value chains, leading them to resort to a single aggregate measure. The SBTi is working to clarify this through the revision of our Corporate Net-Zero Standard. ? We’re expanding our approach to include "alignment metrics," such as net-zero procurement strategies, to help companies influence their supply chains and meet emissions targets. In short, addressing scope 3 emissions requires transparency, better metrics, and evolving strategies, and we’re working to help companies navigate this complex process, specifically through the revision of our Corporate Net-Zero Standard. Thank you to hosts United Nations Global Compact and The Sunrise Project Inc. for facilitating this enlightening conversation on such an important topic. #Scope3 #NetZeroStandard #SBTi #sciencebasedtargets

???? SBTi Chief Technical Officer Alberto Carrillo Pineda is back giving important takeaways from #COP29 in Azerbaijan. Finance has been a major topic of discussion on the ground in Baku, and, in this short video, Alberto explains how both companies and governments have a role to play making sure our transition to a net-zero future is properly funded. ?? Watch Alberto’s video below and check back this week as we share more takeaways from Baku. #NetZero #Sustainability #ClimateAction #SBTi #NetZeroStandard
Week one of #COP29 has wrapped up, and climate finance is still top of the agenda— from the amounts needed, to the sources and where it's deployed International climate finance is an important component of the Paris Agreement and plays a critical role in an equitable transition. But it’s not just on governments to close the climate finance gap. To reach economy-wide net-zero transformation, companies in the real economy and the financial sector must step up too. By aligning their revenue, capital allocation, procurement, and operational expenditure with global climate goals, businesses play a pivotal role in driving the finance flows needed to achieve a net-zero future. Watch my reflections from #COP29, and stay tuned for more insights from my Science Based Targets initiative colleagues. #ClimateFinance #NetZero #ClimateAction #SBTi #COP29 #CorporateLeadership #ScienceBasedTargets #Sustainability #ClimateGoals

"It's important when companies make pledges that they're not self-declared and self-monitored. They need to be credible and they need to be accountable. “And that's why we work with the Science Based Targets initiative, that provides a credible, verifiable, science-based pathway, so we can be sure that companies are making progress. “Why is this important? We have found that companies that use science-based targets to decarbonize do so twice as fast as others, so we know that it works. About 6,000 companies are using this methodology." ?? We love to see leaders like United Nations Global Compact CEO and Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo championing the value of science-based targets in the fight against climate change. By setting science-based targets, companies are committing to real, measurable progress toward a net-zero future. #Sciencebasedtargets #COP29 #ClimateAction
Our CEO and Executive Director, Sanda Ojiambo, joined CGTN Europe to discuss the urgent need for private sector climate action. The conversation emphasized the critical role of setting and achieving targets with the Science Based Targets initiative, committing to decarbonization and implementing tangible changes to meet climate goals. Without private sector engagement, we cannot realize Nationally Determined Contributions #NDCs and secure a sustainable future. Governments are setting the ambition and frameworks—now, it’s time for businesses to lead with action. Watch the interview here: https://lnkd.in/ezNz4hPN
