We were incredibly fortunate to welcome Amelia and Noah to the SFI family for their fall semester. Amelia became a member of our Human Resource and Communications team in June and recently concluded her OJT experience this month. Throughout her time with us, she worked alongside team members on our farms to devise solutions that address language barriers through team-building exercises. Additionally, Amelia played a key role in managing social media and communication-related tasks. Noah was involved in the wean-to-finish segment, primarily contributing to Mark Meyer's finisher pod. Throughout his time in this area, he acquired practical experience in pork production, engaging in activities such as managing pig loads, administering medications, and monitoring the pigs' living environments—he truly did it all! A heartfelt thank you to Noah and Amelia for all your contributions! We wish both of them the best as they wrap up their senior year. We also extend our gratitude to everyone who supports this initiative and the youth in our community!

Despite our best intentions to prevent occupational safety and health problems, there will be times when unexpected events occur. Because accidents in any industry is inevitable. Our Nebraska crew gathered this week for Livestock Rollover Training. Jamee Eggers with Rafter J Consulting conducted the training for employees, drivers, local law enforcement, tow/recovery services and fire departments. It's critical for community members and employees to be prepared for all emergencies. Thank you, Jamee, for providing this much needed training!

New year, new renovations! As 2024 drew to a conclusion, Timber Ridge proudly unveiled its newly renovated breakroom! Established in the early 2000s, it was undoubtedly time for the breakroom to undergo a transformation. Along with modern finishes and a revamped restroom, the area was expanded to better suit the growing team. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Timber Ridge team! Since their last spotlight in 2022, they achieved remarkable production figures in 2023 and triumphed in SFI’s Huskerland Challenge! A huge thank you to Robin and the Timber Ridge crew for consistently exceeding expectations!

Extreme weather = sleepovers at the farm! This is an example of how we look after pigs during a snowstorm. Each year, and occasionally more than once, one of our sites experiences significant snowfall. To avoid snow limiting their ability to drive to the farm in the morning, many of our staff stay overnight at the farms. This sometimes results in extended stays at the barn lasting several days! We are incredibly grateful for our committed team members who ensure that every pig receives the care they need. We are thinking of those who must brave all weather conditions: farmers, first responders, line workers, road crews, and all essential workers! Many of us are fortunate enough to hunker down during winter storms. We appreciate those who work around the clock to keep others safe.

Ringing in the new year with our food pantry donations! We love giving back to the communities in which we operate. Without their support, we couldn't do what we do: feed the world! This year our Sleepy Eye office collected items for the local food shelves -- thank you to all our team members who helped with this!
