The first International Women’s Day was held in March 1911. This is a day of collective global activism and celebration that belongs to all that are committed to forging women’s equality. We honor the contributions of women like Malala Yousafzai, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who champions the education of girls worldwide, embodying the fight for equitable access to education. We celebrate the work of Judith Heumann, an international disability rights activist, whose lifelong activism has paved the way for significant legislation and shifts in societal attitudes towards disability. We're also inspired by Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code, who is dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology and changing the image of what a programmer looks like and does. Let's celebrate these influential women and many others who lead by example, pushing for a world where diversity is valued and equity is a reality for all. Join us in recognizing their efforts towards a more inclusive society. Who are the influential women in your life?

The Schuler Scholar Program equips bright, motivated youth with the support they need to gain access to and succeed at highly selective colleges and beyond. Schuler Scholars are typically first generation college-bound, are students of color, or come from low-income families. We are based in Lake Forest, Illinois with 14 partnership high schools in Chicago and the northern suburbs. Our program works with Scholars for four years in high school and continues to provide professional development and supportive services to Scholars during college and beyond.

Today marks the beginning of Women's History Month! National Women’s History Month shines a light on the history of women who are overlooked in most mainstream approaches to U.S. history, with an aim to champion their accomplishments and lead the drive to write women back into history. The theme for 2024 celebrates "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion." This theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination. We are proud to celebrate women who work for basic inclusion, equity and fairness, especially in higher education. #womenshistorymonth #highereducation

Throughout February, the Schuler Scholar Program proudly celebrates Black History Month. This year's theme, 'African Americans and the Arts,' spotlights the profound impact African Americans have had on various artistic fields. We see their influence in visual artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Kara Walker; performers like Alvin Ailey and Misty Copeland; musicians including Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, and Beyoncé; and literary giants like Langston Hughes, Toni Morrison, and Maya Angelou. We honor these and many other icons for their pivotal role in shaping global cultural and artistic trends. Join us in honoring the rich heritage and contributions of African Americans. We encourage you to engage with these remarkable contributions. Highlight your favorite works, and share how African American art has inspired you.
