Over 30 years of educational assistance to children and youth experiencing homelessness.

关于我们

Founded by Agnes Stevens in 1993, School on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that provides one-on-one tutoring for kids who live in shelters, motels, group foster homes, and on the streets of Southern California. In addition to weekly tutoring and mentoring, every student receives a backpack, school supplies, and uniforms; students get assistance enrolling in school and with locating and filing school records. We do all this with no government funding. We survive through the donations of people like you who believe as we do that every child has potential and every volunteer makes a difference.

?? We Won! ?? We are beyond thrilled to share that School on Wheels has been honored with the Most Innovative Awareness Campaign award at the LA Business Journal’s Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards! ?? This recognition is for our Guinness World Record-breaking Back to School Extravaganza, and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible community. ? A huge thank you to our corporate and nonprofit partners who made this possible—your support and dedication mean the world to us! Special gratitude to BAZIC Products, who not only underwrote the entire event but also worked tirelessly to help us break not one, but TWO Guinness World Records. Your generosity and commitment are truly extraordinary! ?? We are so grateful to everyone who played a role in making this happen. Together, we’re making a difference! ?? Congratulations to @rimafakih and @theresaalhayek on the release of your new book, Brave Buzzy Bee ?? Our students at the Skid Row Learning Center had the opportunity to meet the co-authors, read the book together, and learn that the main character was inspired by each and every one of them. What a wonderful book and an amazing experience for our students. Thank you Rima and Theresa!

  • Thank you, ZS associates! Members of "ZS Cares" recently held a backpack drive and donated items worth $3000! The drive was organized by one of our very own wonderful volunteers. If your company is looking for a way to get involved, holding a fundraiser is a great opportunity. Reach out to us for more information on ways to host a company fundraiser. #givingback #workplacegiving #fundraisers #community

  • ?? What would you do if you could make the world a better place by changing one thing??? Here are just some of the answers given by students at our Skid Row Learning Center: "If I could make the world a better place by changing one thing, I want to build more homes and jobs for many families." "If I could make the world a better place by changing one thing, I would make new resources for low-income families all over the world. Have families stay safe and be able to work." "If I could make the world a better place by changing one thing, it would be cleaning the streets, and having homes." Their answers and amazing artwork were recently featured in a gallery exhibit titled "Faces of Downtown" Our students are our inspiration. Joins us today in helping them become the changemakers of the future. https://lnkd.in/gTGeg6ds

  • ?? At the core of our journey is our visionary founder, Agnes Stevens, whose passion and dedication sparked the formation of School on Wheels in 1993. What began as a one-woman operation has blossomed into a nationally recognized organization, touching the lives of thousands of students experiencing homelessness annually. Agnes' courageous spirit and unwavering commitment will continue to be an inspiration to us all. ?? #womenshistorymonth #inspiration #founder

  • In partnership with Majestic Art Gallery, our students’ artwork was featured in a downtown gallery exhibit last week. This was an amazing and encouraging experience for our talented students. Each painting was paired with answers to questions about what inspires them. Our students are incredible, and we will be sharing more of their work in the days to come. ?? Their art is also be up for sale online, and any funds from purchases will be deposited into that student’s savings fund. There are only a few masterpieces left! https://lnkd.in/gAthD8ng

  • ?? Today is Digital Learning Day. In 2025, reliable access to technology is more important than ever for a student to succeed in school.
