We develop leaders to create schools where adults want to work, students thrive, and everyone feels valued
关于我们
We develop leaders to create schools where adults want to work, students thrive, and everyone feels valued. We know leaders are essential to meaningful outcomes, and too often, leadership development is narrowly focused on technical skills. We’re different. We build brave spaces. We cultivate community. We develop the whole leader.

To our incredible APLA 2024 cohort, Thank you for making our closing session truly special. The energy, vulnerability, and wisdom you all brought into our space was nothing short of inspiring. The foundation has been laid throughout our year together. You now possess all the tools needed to sustain this powerful community: ? The protocols we've practiced together? ? The deep learning you've accumulated? ? The meaningful connections you've established with one another Each of you received a copy of "The Rabbitt Listened." May the book and the notes in it be a source of inspiration and reminder that you are not alone and how far a listening ear can go. Thank you for showing up authentically, creating space for vulnerable conversations, connecting meaningfully, and challenging both us and each other to grow. We couldn't be more excited to witness the incredible work you're doing now and will continue to do in the future. District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Aviv Foundation

Today, we celebrate Sojourner Truth, a towering figure of the 19th century who transformed herself from an enslaved woman into one of America's most powerful voices for abolition, women's rights, and social justice. Born into slavery, Sojourner Truth was a powerful speaker despite being illiterate, championing abolition and women's suffrage before the Civil War. She recruited Black troops for the Union Army and later worked with the Freedman's Bureau in Washington, DC, advocating for former enslaved people to receive land grants. Her life exemplified community building, fighting injustice, and continuous personal growth. Founded in 2020, Sojourner Truth Montessori Public Charter School is DC’s only Montessori for middle and high school students, with a mission to empower students to transform the world. Led by Principal Denise Brijbasi Edwards, M. Ed. (SLC 2020 and DC PLC 2024), she tells us that Sojourner Truth inspires the school’s core values (honor self-development, pursue justice everywhere, design for positive impact, and challenge the mind, body, and soul) and its approach to active learning. Through the halls of The Sojourner Truth School, her spirit of courage and conviction lives on in each student who learns to speak up, take action, and work toward positive change in their community. #WomensHistoryMonth #DCPublicSchools #SojournerTruth

We love seeing our people build lifelong connections beyond the cohort space. Check out these fabulous APs from District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) APLA cohort two out for a spontaneous lunch! We care about connections because having a support system at work contributes to retention and impact. When you're a leader, that peer network gets smaller and smaller. DC had a four-point increase in leader retention, which is no accident. As a city, we've made progress on investing in our leaders so they can invest in their staff and students, and it's working. We're so honored to be a small part of the bigger picture. Jake Lappi Greg Moffitt
A great day of learning ended even better with a few ladies of #APLADCPSCohort2 I am happy that we were able to make it out of our group chat to connect, reflect, and build a stronger community of leaders, especially during Women’s History Month ???? Instructional Superintendent Harry Hughes mentioned how networking is one of the top 3 keys in leadership, especially when your goal is to become an impactful Principal. I am grateful for District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) and School Leader Lab for bringing us together ??
