One of the greatest highlights of a long career in education is when your former students come back after graduation to share their success stories. We feel the same way about our New School Design Fellowship (NSDF) graduates! We’re thrilled to celebrate Alma Cunningtubby, principal of Anita-Carmona Harrison in Lubbock ISD, whose campus was recently recognized as a Solution Tree "Promising Practice" school! ?? Not only that, but the greenhouse they designed during their Fellowship as part of their unique Agri-STEM model is now in FULL BLOOM! ?? At SEN, we are proud to support the design and launch of Kirby STEM Academy in Judson ISD through our New School Design Fellowship, a part of Texas Education Agency's School Action Fund! ?? This fall, Kirby STEM Academy opened its doors to offer a truly innovative learning experience, complete with a state-of-the-art SmartLab designed to engage students in hands-on STEM learning. The SmartLab prepares students for future success in high-demand fields like engineering, computer science, and healthcare by fostering critical skills like problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity. Thank you to Judson ISD Superintendent Dr. Milton (Rob) Fields III and Nicole Rosas-Saunders for your leadership in the exciting advancements happening at Kirby STEM Academy. ?? Fellowship Reflections from a Graduating Leader ?? It’s hard to believe, but with the support of Texas Education Agency's School Action Fund Grant, SEN has launched almost 40 new schools in Texas with innovative school models. The best part of this work is supporting the growth of new school leaders. When asked, "How has participating in the Fellowship benefitted your school community?" this leader shared: "I have grown as a leader and further developed in my skills when it comes to communication, accountability, and feedback. Recruitment and retention was something that I learned a lot about during my first year, which I am so grateful for. The School Quality Reviews were powerful, and I'm thankful for those as well." It's incredibly rewarding to see the impact the Fellowship has on leaders and their school communities. We look forward to continuing this work of supporting transformational leadership and creating positive outcomes for students! ?? Strengthening Our Team to Empower Schools! ?? At School Empowerment Network, we are deeply committed to building and sustaining the best team so we can support school leaders around the country. To keep this commitment, we dedicate time each year to gather our entire team for an org-wide retreat. This past week, the entire SEN team met in New Haven, Connecticut to build relationships and learn together. A highlight of every retreat is a school visit, which helps us center on the purpose of our work. We were thrilled to visit New Haven Academy, an innovative school dedicated to providing a rigorous education that prepares all students to succeed in college and become active citizens. In addition to learning, there was also some celebrating. Both Emily Schneider-Krzys and Adam Paredes were honored for hitting their 5-year anniversaries with SEN. We would not be the organization we are without their incredible work. During the first year of our New School Design Fellowship in Texas, supported by Texas Education Agency's School Action Fund, our fellows learn a lot...ABOUT LEARNING! At our recent convening in Houston, our new fellows took an in-depth look into the Science of Learning,?exploring the research behind how children learn math and reading. We believe that building a strong, shared foundation about how students learn best among our new school leaders can truly transform student outcomes throughout the state.
