“Everyone is stranded.” That’s how one researcher described the impact of the Trump administration’s canceling critical education contracts that support everything from work to build principal pipelines to research around student mental health and chronic absenteeism. We need everyone who cares about public education to take action, like calling your Congresspeople. What other actions are you taking at the federal level? Put them in the comments so we can learn from each other. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gEcra4RK

We equip education advocates and aspiring school board members with the knowledge and network to drive systemic change.
关于我们
Our mission is to activate a diverse coalition of education advocates and aspiring school board members to create significant and sustainable change in their school system. We prepare participants with the skills, mindset, networks, and experiences needed to be ready to serve as effective school board members and education advocates. At School Board School, we: -Prepare participants to lead and govern: Our 6-month program is comprised of 20 sessions and field trip experiences led by content area experts. These experiences provide participants with a deep understanding of how school districts operate and what it takes to make systemic change. -Develop diverse leadership: We are building a network of people who have historically been affected by but not included in this work. We grow their confidence, skills, knowledge and network so that educational leadership at all levels- from community activists to school board members- represents the fullness of our community. -Launch strong coalitions: Individuals can have a positive impact but they don’t change systems; coalitions change systems. Our participants start as a group of individuals considering the independent actions they can take to make change but grow into a coalition of people strengthened by collective and sustained action.

At School Board School, we believe that every student, staff member, and family in our community should feel safe and welcomed in our public schools and that our school systems should be designed equitably to ensure that every child reaches their potential. Right now, this work is more important than ever, and we need as many people as possible to join us in this fight for our public schools. Join our coalition now by donating at: https://buff.ly/H3uTsK0

What’s your role in creating school systems where every child can thrive? That’s the question the members of Cincinnati Class 6 set out to answer when they started our learning program in August. This past Saturday, during their last session, they reflected deeply on how they’ve grown– individually and as a collective- and solidified the specific roles and actions they each plan to take to build more just and equitable school systems. Many thanks to Kelly Harris Perin from Little Bites Coaching, LLC for guiding us through this important work. Want to find out how you can help with the work the members of Class 6 are taking on? Register to join us for their Impact Presentations! RSVP here: https://buff.ly/Gg6CXa1

Are you worried about the attacks on our public schools? So are we. That’s why, like Rome says, we’re “educating change-makers… and giving them tools to make a difference in their community.” But, we can’t continue to offer all of our programming free of charge without your support. Please join us in this work, and donate today at: buff.ly/3mlnF1X

If we told you that elementary school-aged kids could run their own coffee shop, would you believe us? Well, every week, the students at Pleasant Ridge Montessori build life and job skills at the Coffee Cup Cafe. As the Pitch Night panel runner-up, Ruth Anne Wolfe and Tyler Chernesky will have the opportunity to expand their student-run coffee shop to more CPS schools, giving even more students hands-on experiences in entrepreneurship, while building real-world skills. Want to try this idea at your school? Check out their pitch here: https://buff.ly/43ai0ii

We know that the people closest to a problem should be the ones driving the solution. That’s why at Education Policy Pitch Night, the audience gets to vote on what idea they believe is needed in our community. This year’s audience vote winner was Brian Carlson, Angela Houston, Chandra Hyman, and Michael Wilson’s idea to administer a mental health screening for all students in order to proactively provide support. Watch their pitch here: https://buff.ly/3EVB21Z
