I’ve always wondered how it must feel to hold the World Cup winning trophy when you are not the player but simply the coach or not in the playing 11... Players give their everything on the field, in each of the tournaments leading up to the final, and their emotions at the end is very palpable. But when it comes to the coach, or people not in the playing 11 that day, on the face if it, it feels like their contributions are limited to before the match. Hence, looking at Mohd Siraj's excitement with the T20 World Cup made me wonder, why this guy was so excited and emotive when he didn't even bowl in the finals! While the wise words, acts of encouragement, and thoughts to maintain the mental balance that are very required to ensure each of the player is in the best frame of mind comes from the coach, the results we all see is still the outcome of every single player’s performance. Afterall, it is purely the result of which of the "strategies" the player finally chooses to implement and how. So yes, for long, I've simply been curious.. This week I finally got a taste of that feeling personally. While I had all these preconceived notions, when Schmooze won the YouTube Silver badge this week, a badge that is purely the result of our 2 people Marketing team - Nilaxi Sinha and Harini Uthayakumar's hard work on streets, battling rain, 100s of rejections before getting 1 YES for a video, battling many creepy people who follow them to each of their filming locations, the entire team rejoiced! Each of us had our own Mohd Siraj moment, and without questioning my own contribution compared to the "on field players", all I felt was pure bliss. Thanks Nilaxi and Harini, for giving all of us this opportunity, and for letting me experience the feeling of being a “successful” (for the moment) coach PS - Like every good story, ours came full-circle when the badge from YouTube arrived on the 1 yr anniversary of our India launch!
