I still cringe when I think about it. When I was in grad school at Columbia, one of the ways to land a finance job was to go to networking events & chat up senior people from Wall Street firms. At every event, there'd be clusters of students, all gathered around some managing director from Bear Stearns or Morgan Stanley, chatting him up. If you didn't want to be unemployed after graduation, you'd better try to insert yourself into a conversation & ask a smart question that might get you noticed. Talk about stressful! I ended up getting a job offer because of a relationship. (Thank you Sharon Moore & Carolyn Buck Luce!) Building a network of business relationships is a must. But networking doesn't have to be so stressful. Schmooze hosts IRL networking events that we call "organized" or "structured" speed networking. Instead of being left to your own devices to connect with people randomly, we'll facilitate introductions & help you connect with people. Tickets for the next event are on sale now! ?? It's on Thurs, Dec 5 in NYC from 5:30 to 7:30pm. ?? Schmooze members can use the discount code they can find on the Schmooze website to buy discounted tickets. ?? Non members can buy tickets by using the Eventbrite link in the comment section.

We help women create strong business networks by providing specialized content & events for business entertaining.
关于我们
In business, relationships are everything. For women, they can close the gap between where you are & where you want to be, whether that's a promotion, a career pivot, or a corporate board role. That‘s because people promote, refer, & do business with people they know, like & trust. Schmooze encourages and helps women to build business relationships, Our in-person & virtual events (open to everyone!) are an alternative to the golf outings & sports tickets that men use to build business relationships - events like virtual poker lessons, “Manicures, Massages & Margarita,s, coffee & spirit tastings, and panels on topics like investing in women sports. Invite a client, a mentor or mentee, or a LinkedIn contact that you want to get to know better.! Our Schmooze events are for everyone; but Schmooze members get exclusive access to mini master classes that help them build relationships when they’re targeting specific goals like: landing a new job or promotion, changing careers or staying visible while working from home.

First impressions matter. Thursday's Schmooze.biz Mini Masterclass on "Nailing Your Self-Introduction" with Andrea Wojnicki, MBA DBA was soooo good! Andrea boosted our confidence & got us ready to network. She gave us a simple & easy-to-remember framework that you can use to introduce yourself...and then brag on yourself a bit...without sounding like you're bragging. Now that we've nailed our self-intro, Marie Roker-Jones, founder of Curious Introverts, will share her secret for taking it to the next level & instantly connecting with anyone you meet. That virtual Mini Masterclass is on Tuesday, Dec 3 at 12 noon. And on Thurs, Dec 5, Schmooze is hosting an "organized speed networking" event IRL in NYC. Instead of leaving you on your own to wander around & introduce yourself to strangers, we'll facilitate introductions. We promise! It'll be a fun and productive evening! Of course, if you're a member of Schmooze, all Mini Masterclasses are included in your membership! And you get discounted tickets for the networking event. Register on the Schmooze website or on Eventbrite using the code provided in Monday's email. However non-members can pay a one-time fee to attend any class and the networking event. Just use the?Eventbrite?link below.

This ?? David Hannan said: "Your #1 mistake: not networking ↓ Networking beats age bias. Networking beats skill gaps. Networking beats no degree. Networking beats short stints. Networking beats cold applying. Networking beats overqualifying. Networking beats doom-scrolling. Networking beats merely applying. Networking beats career-changing. Networking beats employment gaps. Networking beats hoping to be saved. Networking beats no formal education. Networking beats feeling overeducated. Networking beats feeling undereducated. Networking beats non-linear career paths. Networking beats no industry background. Networking beats lack of direct experience. Networking can help you handle anything. It’s the (not-so-secret) secret sauce." David Hannan is so right. That's why I launched Schmooze.biz. Our Mini Masterclasses focus specifically on teaching networking skills. Our Schmooze Events offer you a chance to build your network of relationships. I'd rather be at home watching "This Christmas" and drinking spiked eggnog. That's because I'm an introvert. I'm shy. And I can be socially-awkward. But company & industry holiday parties are the perfect time to network. This is an opportunity to expand the network of business relationships you need to do whatever it is that you want to do in 2025. One of the things that will make you more confident is nailing your self-introduction when you meet people for the first time. On TOMORROW, THURSDAY, NOV 21, from 12 noon to 1pm ET, Andrea Wojnicki, MBA DBA will teach you how to nail it when you introduce yourself while networking. It's a Schmooze.biz Mini Masterclass that is a full hour, including time to practice & get feedback from Andrea who is a top, Harvard-educated communications coach for executives. Of course, the class is free for Schmooze members. They can RSVP on the Schmooze website (use the code provided) or with the links in Monday's email. However non-members can pay a one-time fee to attend. Just use the Eventbrite link in the comment section.

Don't miss Part 2 of our interview with Anilu Vazquez-Ubarri, COO of TPG! We often think of our "network" as relationships that are outside of our company. But in Part 1 of our interview, Anilu explained how she built the internal relationships that changed the trajectory of her career. In Part 2 below, she tells us what she means when she calls herself a "truth teller" and how working in "windy" industries can offer more career opportunities.

She has what my friends call "a big job". When I met Anilu Vazquez-Ubarri at a Black Women On Boards event, she had recently been promoted to Chief Operating Officer at one of the largest and most prestigious asset management firms in the world. I know enough to know that the COO role is not a typical landing spot for someone who began their career in HR. In part 1 of our interview, she tells us how she developed relationships with bosses and internal clients - who then encouraged her to take on different types of challenges. Those relationships & opportunities changed the trajectory of her career.

You had no idea what I'm capable of. If you've never met me in person or had a Zoom chat with me, the way you know me is by what I post or email. Nobody knows what YOU are capable of. Or what you want. Unless you tell them. Stefanie Sword-Williams FRSA (she/her) calls self promotion "a form of storytelling. All you have to do is figure out how you want to tell your story." AI can make it easier to do that. On Wed, Oct 23 at 6pm ET, Korie Grayson, PhD will show Schmooze.biz members how to use AI to promote themselves - without losing their authentic voice. Schmooze members can sign up on the Schmooze website or use the link that I'll email. If you're not a member, get a complimentary 3 month trial by using the discount code "70126". P.S. The reason I'm spinning the block with this photo is because TaMiya Dickerson said I was giving off Biggie vibes. That fit with the whole "you don't know what I'm capable of" theme. ?? ?? ??

So flattered! I was so flattered when Madelyn Blair asked to interview me for Unlocked, her tv show about "activating the resilient leader in you". Every leader I've interviewed for my own Schmooze.biz newsletter has talked about having one or more people in their career lives who ** championed them ** provided "right on time" career advice ** convinced them to take a role that ended up changing the trajectory of their careers ** helped them land their first board seat. That's why I firmly believe that Relationships Close Gaps. Thank you Madelyn. Link to the replay is in the comments.
