关于我们
The work of Schiller Projects exists at the intersection of strategy and craft. We believe the core act of creativity happens when ideas and execution, mind and hand, are in harmony. The best architecture, ultimately, has to achieve many things: it must be purposeful, rigorous, and beautiful, and extend ‘beyond the project’ to engage broader objectives. We call what we do ‘Actionable Architecture’ - architecture that not only delivers its core functions, but that also exceeds the basic program to meet unarticulated agendas of environmental responsibility and social impact in an anticipatory way. By thinking bigger and researching every aspect of the ecosystem of architecture, we are able to achieve positive outcomes that go beyond the people at the table and the immediate timeline.

Brooklyn Mass Timber House sets a new standard for sustainable, design-forward architecture. The home is a testament to how design excellence and innovative construction processes can go hand in hand within a historic setting. Here are some key highlights: → Low-carbon construction using mass timber methods → Biophilic design, featuring natural light, open spaces, and a stunning seven-foot-tall interior maple tree → Inverted design process: materials sourced first, design sculpted to fit, reducing waste and cost → Reuse of historical beams from the 1860s and 1880s, preserving the site’s heritage Awards & Recognition: ? 2024 AIA Connecticut Design Awards (Adaptive Re-use & Residential Architecture) ? 2023 AIA NY State Design Awards (Merit Award – Residential Single Family Detached ? 2023 Interior Design Best of Year Award (City House) ? 2023 AIA Brooklyn Design Awards (Commendation – Use of Detail in Mass Timber) ? 2023 Architect’s Newspaper Best of Design (Editor’s Pick – Residential Single-Unit) ? 2021 AIA NY State Design Awards (Award of Citation – Unbuilt) Photos: Frank Frances #residentialarchitecture #sustainablearchitecture #masstimber #buildwithwood #brooklynny #timberconstruction? #NYCarchitecture #NYCarchitects #interiordesign #greenbuilding

Artisanal interiors ? The muted tones of bleached ash and plywood set the stage for a truly bespoke interior, where custom furniture and signature textiles shine. At the heart of it all is a stunning hand-carved walnut dining table, designed exclusively for this space—a true testament to craftsmanship and attention to detail. #interiordesign #customfurniture #interiordesign #interiorstyling #newenglandhome #interiorarchitecture

Where architecture meets nature ?? “To try and find a way to build here, is also to try and find a unique connection to the human history of the land - and this is particularly true of Chilmark.” - Aaron Schiller Chilmark House harmoniously blends into the landscape, with a sleek black barn floating above and an L-shaped structure embedded into the hillside. A green roof ties it all together, creating a seamless fusion of the built environment and the natural world. #architecturedose #landscapedesign #architecturalplans #designconcepts

A home rooted in history and designed for the future ?? The Chilmark House and Studio were crafted to blend seamlessly with the landscape, evoking the traditional New England barn. With low-pitched roofs and a dark cedar facade, charred using the Shou Sugi Ban technique, these buildings create inviting courtyards and spaces that draw you toward the stunning views of the Atlantic and rolling fields. A true testament to timeless design, Chilmark House stands as a reawakened fragment of its past, ready to welcome generations to come. #newengland #timelessdesign #designerarchitect #mvhomes #marthasvineyard #newenglandhomes

“Upon entering the formerly 7’6” space vaults to a double-height, wood-framed interior, a nod to old the fishing shacks still dotting the village but capped with large windows.” Carlene Olsen for Interior Design Magazine Stepping into the newly designed Larsen’s Fish Market is like entering a vibrant, modern homage to maritime heritage. The double-height entryway welcomes you with large west-facing windows that bathe the space in natural light, creating an airy, vibrant atmosphere that connects the harbor’s activity with the interior. ?? The space celebrates tradition with its timber-framed ceiling, reminiscent of New England fish shacks, and antique wooden lobster traps that add a touch of nostalgia. The glazed teal and white ceramic tiles not only enhance the maritime theme but also ensure ease and efficiency for cleanup. ?? Plus, our innovative bio-filter fabric system in the lobster tanks showcases our commitment to sustainable design, ensuring a chemical-free water circulation process. #architecturalrevival #localbusiness #communityhub #designinnovation #architecturaltransformation #interiordesign #masstimber #designerarchitect

“While the original interiors of Larsen’s were designed with functionality in mind, Schiller incorporated elements that tie back to the community within the renovation while also enhancing organization and flow.” - Paige Davidson for The Architect's Newspaper The design problems were addressed through a combination of detailed analysis and strategic redesign: ?? Inefficiencies in layout: A deep dive into the market's operations led to a restructured layout that separated the prepared foods section from the traditional fish market, with additional customer service points to streamline operations. ?? Ventilation and hygiene issues: The new design incorporated improved ventilation systems and easy-to-clean materials like glazed ceramic tiles, addressing the previous problems of odors and wet floors. ?? Space utilization: The space was reimagined with a focus on maximizing functionality, including the introduction of a double-height entryway and an optimized kitchen area. By tackling these key challenges head-on, we’ve transformed Larsen’s Fish Market into a modern, efficient, and welcoming space that stands ready to serve the community for years to come. #communityfirst #sustainabledesign #architecturalrevival #localbusiness #designinnovation #masstimber #designerarchitect

Larsen’s Fish Market, a long-standing and cherished community institution, tasked us with replacing their original building with a contemporary, revitalized space that would continue to serve as a hub for commerce and community exchange. The goal was to create a design that would address the operational inefficiencies of the old market while maintaining the market's historical and community-centered identity. The agreed-upon goals of the project were to: ?? Create a functional and efficient space that would support and enhance the market's commercial activities. ?? Revitalize the market’s architectural design to maintain its historical charm while integrating modern, sustainable practices. ?? Enhance the customer experience by improving the layout, ventilation, and overall aesthetic appeal of the market. ?? Integrate sustainable technologies into the design, particularly in relation to the market’s operations, such as the lobster tanks. ?? Ensure the market continues to serve as a community hub while attracting both local residents and tourists. Through thoughtful design and innovative solutions, we’ve breathed new life into Larsen’s Fish Market, ensuring it remains a beloved community cornerstone for generations to come. #sustainabledesign #architecturalrevival #localbusiness #fishmarket #designinnovation #designerarchitect
