November 14, we observe the International Day Against Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property, a day recognized by UNESCO to honor the 1970 Paris Convention, a key international agreement for the protection of cultural property during peacetime. The Save Cultural Heritage Group (#SCHG) acknowledges that preserving cultural heritage is not just about protecting artifacts and artworks, but also about safeguarding our shared human history and identity. Illicit trafficking, which often supports organized crime and other illegal activities, is a major threat to this shared heritage. Preserving cultural heritage is not just about safeguarding our past, but also about ensuring a future rich in diversity and cultural understanding. It’s about fostering a sense of unity and shared humanity through the appreciation of different cultures. As we observe this International Day,?#SCHG?reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding our collective heritage. We strive to provide inclusive and accessible education and knowledge to all. We believe that by empowering individuals with knowledge and understanding, we can collectively stand against the illicit trafficking that threatens our cultural identity. Join us in our mission to protect our shared heritage. Among our extensive range of free online courses, we had offered courses on the Trafficking of Cultural Property, and on the Ethics in Archaeology. These courses were mentored by Virág Pabeschitz (?Virág Pabeschitz), Monique Corbett (?Monique Corbett) respectively and provided comprehensive insights into the complexities of cultural property trafficking, repatriation and ethics. The video lectures from these course are still available for everyone on our YouTube channel. To learn more about our work and how you can contribute, follow us and visit our website.
