The South Coast Development Council (SCDC) is a 501(c)3 private non-profit, economic development organization with a mission to promote and support businesses that provide quality jobs through responsible development on Oregon’s south coast. We are membership funded by regional businesses, private individuals, municipalities, counties, and other public entities interested in improving our regional economy. We work: to Retain existing businesses and provide opportunities for the Expansion of these businesses. to Attract and Recruit firms, industry and professionals that will invest in our communities while creating good paying jobs. We serve: as a regional coordinator and collaborate to create consensus building and partnerships with businesses, governments and other economic development entities. as a regional economic development advocate by promoting the policies, incentives and infrastructure necessary for a healthy and diverse regional economy. Port of Coos Bay CEO Lanelle Comstock and Director of External Affairs Matt Friesen hosted our Executive Director Lexie Woodward, CEcD, PCED and Economic Development Manager A.LaMar Hoy, MURP for a familiarization tour at the port office, their available 'Terminal One' property and the Charleston Marina. This deepened our understanding of the Port's assets and we look forward to marketing Terminal One to potential companies, site selectors, developers, etc. Terminal One: A Prime Development Opportunity Terminal One, formerly the Georgia Pacific Mill site, spans approximately 167 acres along the Coos Bay Harbor at River Mile 15. Acquired by the Port in Jan. 2022, this rail-served property features a 1,200-foot dock and is poised for redevelopment to accommodate multiple users benefiting from both rail and maritime transportation. Fostering Collaborative Relationships: This tour also served as an opportunity to strengthen relationships among new and existing leaders. It marked the introduction of A. LaMar Hoy in his role as Economic Development Manager at SCDC and the recent appointment of Lanelle Comstock as Chief Executive Officer of the International Port of Coos Bay. Such engagements are crucial for aligning strategic goals and fostering collaborative efforts to drive regional economic development. About the Organizations: ? International Port of Coos Bay: Oregon's largest deep-draft coastal harbor, vital for maritime and industrial growth, economic development, and international trade. For over a century, it has driven economic expansion in Southwest Oregon and beyond, boosting the blue economy locally and globally. ? You will pay no out-of-pocket costs* for the lighting upgrades and support from Energy Trust’s outreach team and qualified lighting installers make the process easy. This is a limited time offer.   • On January 25th, the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Awards Banquet at The Mill Casino ? Hotel & RV Park, recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations that make a difference in the region. We are incredibly proud that SCDC was nominated for Business of the Year (even though we don’t qualify as a nonprofit) and that our Executive Director Lexie Woodward, CEcD, PCED, and Vice Chair Rodger Craddock (Executive Director of the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport - OTH were nominated for Citizen of the Year for their dedication to economic development and community impact. Additionally, our partner, neighbor and ex-officio member of our board, Derek Tonn, Director of the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network of Southwestern Oregon Community College was honored as the 2024 Chamber Member of the Year! Our entire SCDC team was on hand, including Entrepreneurship Program Manager Tanya Rasley, Economic Development Manager A.LaMar Hoy, MURP and Economic Development Technician Courteney Halstead, to celebrate this special evening and cheer on all the deserving nominees across our community.
