When I was a kid, my Dad would play a record album of sportscaster Joe Tait calling what would later be known as "The Miracle at Richfield" - those legendary Cleveland Cavs games with Campy Russell, Bingo Smith, Foots Walker, Jim Chones, and Nate Thurmond. Yesterday felt like my own small miracle - leading a "Courage + Connection" experience for the Cleveland Cavaliers organization - and it was full-circle for me when Campy Russell took part. Just a year ago, I took the leap from my real estate job to pursue my passion: helping people and organizations step beyond their comfort zones and REALLY connect with one another. Yesterday was a beautiful milestone on this journey - confirmation that not only do I love what I get to do, but I get to do it with incredible people and teams. If you're standing at the edge of a meaningful change, remember this: "Being brave isn't about being fearless. Leadership isn't just about strategy — it's about connection, creativity, and courage. I had the privilege of facilitating a courage experience with Cleveland State University's leadership team. Using art and music as catalysts, we delved deep into personal histories around times when these leaders were students themselves, deep connection and relationship-building, and visionary thinking toward CSU's bright future. Here's what makes experiences like this really work: ? The power of in-person connection: There's an undeniable electricity when leaders gather face-to-face, especially in our digital world. The CSU team's enthusiasm for collaborative, creative problem-solving was palpable. ? Creativity as a catalyst: Leveraging elements of the Late Nite Art-inspired methodology - brilliantly created by Adam Rosendahl - that uses art and music as keys to connection, we unlocked new pathways for strategic thinking. The result? This 30-foot-long paper was filled with personal histories, commitments, and innovative ideas for CSU's future. ? Trust breeds innovation: Watching seasoned leaders step out of their comfort zones, share personal stories, and engage in creative expression was inspiring. It reinforced that the best solutions often come when we dare to be authentic. ? Collective wisdom is a strategy multiplier: The depth of experience and openness to learn from one another in the room was remarkable. Every leader contributed unique insights, creating a mix of ideas richer than any one person could have devised. I'm grateful for the vision of CSU president Laura Bloomberg, PhD and the opportunity to be part of CSU's journey towards excellence and impact!
