A new study from the Rocky Mountain Institute notes that, "almost two-thirds of all primary energy is wasted in energy production, transportation, and use.” This incredible inefficiency is from oil, gas and coal that needs to be mined, drilled, refined and transported.? As we transition away from this energy of the past, communities in the developing world facing energy scarcity, climate change and the global plastic pollution crisis have a new option that can help solve both the inefficiency of our legacy fossil fuel addiction and the plastic pollution crisis in developing communities. At ScarabTech we invented small-scale, efficient and affordable plastic-to-energy machines that can immediately offer a solution to mined and transported fossil fuels plus create jobs, while helping clean up communities plagued by this un-recyclable plastic waste.? Our amazing partners in Bangladesh are permanently destroying un-recyclable plastic waste with one of our machines. Thank you Practical Action!
?? Transforming Waste into Wealth in Bangladesh! ?? We've set up a new Pyrolysis plant in Faridpur which is turning single-use plastics collected by waste workers into valuable fuel. The aim is to improve marine life, human health, and creating wealth for thousands of waste workers. This innovative solution tackles the massive plastic waste problem, reducing pollution and supporting sustainable development. ???? Key Highlights: ?? Job Creation & Worker Transformation: By 2025, the initiative will create 300 new jobs and improve 1700 existing jobs for informal waste workers. ?? Plastic Pollution Reduction: Installation of floating litter traps to reduce river-based plastic pollution flowing into the Indian Ocean. ?? Sustainable Business Model: Sale of oil from pyrolysis ensures financial viability. ?? Government Integration: Waste management integrated into local government structures and processes. ?? Skill Development: Equipping waste workers with skills to collect, classify, and recycle single-use plastics. ?? Infrastructure Development: Establishment of four pyrolysis units, river cleaning units, and land-based collection systems. ?? Market Chain Development: Connecting market outlets for pyrolysis products and developing a market chain for low-value, non-recyclable waste. ?? Advocacy: Development and advocacy of relevant laws and standards. Thanks to our incredible partners for making this possible: Scarabtech, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denmark (The Trade Council of Denmark in South Asia), DANIDA Markets Development Partnership (Udenrigsministeriet), Society Development Committee, RiverRecycle and Faridpur Municipality. https://lnkd.in/erbPQRjP ??? #WasteWorkers #Recycling Practical Action in Bangladesh

Follow our partners Plastic Odyssey to discover some plastic pollution hope around the world!
The Plastic Odyssey expedition is in Port-Vila! Vanuatu is a stopover on their 3-year journey around the world. This French laboratory ship is developing solutions to plastic pollution. The embassy has organized a visit on board. Machines grind plastic into flakes, then melt them to make objects. Another performs plastic pyrolysis = transforming plastic waste into fuel by distillation. The team absorbs and develops many other ideas during their stopovers. ??https://lnkd.in/eCQHcxe2

Check out our non-profit partners, Alliance Earth, who started the Dung Beetle Project seven years ago. We were able to donate our low-emission fuel made from un-recyclable plastic through them this year at South Africa's biggest art event, well done team Dung Beetle!
Our art stage, powered by?un-recyclable plastic waste,?lit up Afrikaburn again in 2024. Follow us here to find out more about how we helping share this working solution to plastic pollution around the world, or visit our non-profit partners at Alliance Earth: https://acesse.dev/QSw1h
