As a parent of three school-age children, I feel like managing everyone’s schedules in practically a full-time job. We’ve got school, sports, clubs, extracurriculars, auditions, play practice, doctor’s appointments, birthday parties, and the list goes on. When you have a child who is also experiencing mental health challenges, finding time and opportunities for accessing mental health support (on top of everything else!) can seem like an impossible task. Can you find a provider in your area? Do the providers have openings, or is there a wait? Is it feasible to leave work and pick your kid up from school to attend weekly appointments? Do the providers take insurance? Is it affordable? Parents want to support their children and give them everything they need, and it can be really hard to do!? At the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health (SCSMH) Clinic, our goal is to reduce barriers to accessing high quality mental health care. To meet that goal, we are striving to provide flexible options for referring and participating in our clinical services. Schools can initiate a referral, and with parental consent, students can participate in services via telehealth from school. Alternatively, parents can initiate a referral and either bring their child to our clinic for in-person services or allow their child to join telehealth sessions from home. We accept most major insurance plans, and we have financial aid available for qualifying families.? Over the past three years, the SCSMH Clinic has succeeded in our goal of increasing access to care; many of our clients had not previously participated in services due to geographical, financial, or transportation barriers. We’ve supported clients from over 72 Iowa school districts experiencing grief, depression, and anxiety; recovering from trauma; and struggling suicidal thoughts and behaviors. We are committed to continue engaging in this important work, with the hope of expanding our services to further improve mental health and wellness for Iowa’s students and educators. We need your help to support student mental health and serve even more Iowans! Our goal is $2,500 —can you donate? Even $5 helps us get there!? ?? Donate by March 26 at https://lnkd.in/gGJ8vVfc??? ? ?If you're unable to donate, sharing this post is another powerful way to support.? ?? #1DayForIowa
