“For me, a lingering effect of Boliglaboratorium: A Danish Housing Lab was one of hope. I walked into the Center for Architecture and Design with heavy feelings… I walked out with a brighter sense of what is socially and culturally possible if a country truly embraces the ethos of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”—in other words, the pursuit of hygge. It can happen here.” Thank you to The Evergreen Echo for writing this article about the opening of the Boliglaboratorium exhibit at Seattle Architecture Foundation! Over 80 people joined us last night in Seattle for the opening of Boliglaboratorium: A Danish Housing Lab. The exhibition sparked thoughtful conversations between architects and city planners, students and policy makers in the room. We heard remarks from Jim Bourey, ED of Seattle Architecture Foundation, Frederikke M?ller Kristiansen Cultural Diplomacy Advisor from the Danish Embassy in DC Denmark in USA, and our own Fidelma McGinn, President of SDF. A big thank you to Seattle Architecture Foundation who expertly executed the event and to Cafe Hagen for the Danish treats! #thehousinglabnw #dkinusa
Thank you to everyone who attended the opening reception of the Danish Housing Lab last night! It was great to see so many of you who are interested in the future of housing in the PNW and the inspirations that Danish models can provide for how to meet today's construction, climate, and social challenges. A huge thanks to our partners at Scan Design Foundation for their work bringing this exhibit to the U.S. Keep an eye out for programs in early 2025 to stay engaged with the exhibit during its PNW tour! If you missed last night's event or want to see the models again, visit us at the Center for Architecture & Design through December 14th! ??: Evan Chakroff 2024

Since 2008 Scan Design Foundation has partnered with the University of Washington College of Built Environments to develop the SDF Interdisciplinary Master Studio program for graduate students. The program has been expertly led by UW Professor Emeritus, Nancy Rottle. Before each studio, students travel to Copenhagen, Denmark to visit the office of the renowned Copenhagen firm Gehl Architects and see the city through its people-centered urban design lens. In four past studios, students focused their projects on the Seattle Waterfront. 14 years after the studios, influence from Denmark can be detected in this new addition to Seattle's cityscape. Read our new blog about these Danish influences. #dkinusa #seattlewaterfront

**Exhibition from Denmark opens tomorrow in Seattle!** How do we create housing that addresses some of the greatest challenges of our time? Join us as we explore this question through the exhibition, Boliglaboratorium: A Danish Housing Lab. The exhibit features 6 ground-breaking architectural models from Denmark that are being realized into full scale housing projects. Through these projects we look at ways in which housing can respond to the current climate crisis, resource scarcity, new family patterns, loneliness, shrinking rural communities, and how to address urban space as big cities struggle to keep up with the influx of newcomers. From November 2024 to May 2025, there will be opportunities to view the exhibit in four locations in the Pacific Northwest. This Northwest tour is presented by Scan Design Foundation, in partnership with the Royal Embassy of Denmark in USA Denmark in USA. Thank you to all our partners! Last week, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of Sustainability hosted their annual Sustainability Symposium at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Students in the Scan Design Foundation Fellowship program designed a research study analyzing how culture can affect how people conceptualize sustainability. The Sustainability Symposium provides a space for students and professionals to share current information about research, projects, and innovation across all aspects of sustainability. Hosted in partnership with the Data Science Institute, Facilities Planning & Management, the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University Lectures, and the UW Environmental Awareness Fund, the Symposium is designed to highlight and advance sustainability efforts across the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. #sustainabilitysymposium #SDFFellows #Fellowships
