Cat Brennan & Paul Wall just wrapped up a great week in Sydney connecting with clients, new and existing! Oceania continues to lead as a region. The GRESB event showcased a great sense of community and collaboration across industry professionals. The speaker panels highlighted the growing impact of sustainability factors in asset valuation. Hearing firsthand from our Australian clients about their needs and priorities is invaluable as their long term partner - continually delivering the tools they need to unlock their sustainability programs. Excited for what’s ahead as Scaler's presence grows in Australia!????? Credit and thanks to Daniel Kukec for the photos!

If you're already reporting your carbon emissions, my advice is simple: start pricing them. Put a price on every tonne of CO2e and begin acting on it today. Why? Because the cost of inaction will only grow, and the hidden costs of emissions will eventually catch up to you. At Scaler, we make it easy to experiment with carbon pricing. You can input a fictive carbon price and immediately see how it impacts your current operational costs—and more importantly, your future financial exposure if decarbonization efforts aren't executed. Just look at NYC's Local Law 97: building owners exceeding carbon limits are now taxed for their emissions. This is a clear sign of where the world is heading. You can't hide from this shift—better to get ahead of it. Carbon pricing isn't just about compliance; it's about building resilience, managing risks, and future-proofing your portfolio. The time to start? Now. Let's make ESG about action, not just reporting. ??

A nice somewhat positive Sunday read with the following highlights (let’s hope this will be the case with the AI trend): “The energy transition will be much cheaper than you think - Most analysts overestimate energy demand and underestimate technological advances. The one point of agreement, that decarbonisation will be dauntingly expensive, between climate activists and carbon addicts is, in fact, wrong. Greening the world economy will be much cheaper than the two groups imagine. Slower economic growth, cheaper technology and more modest targets for when the world reaches net zero could reduce the price tag even further. This year solar power should account for $500bn, more than every other source of generation combined. These numbers flatter clean energy somewhat, since they include investments in electric vehicles (EVs), heat pumps and improvements to electric grids, which do not in themselves lower emissions that much. Instead, they pave the way for big emissions cuts, provided that the electricity used comes from low-carbon sources.”

    Enabling positive outcomes

Only seven sleeps until the GRESB Real Estate Insights event for Oceania! This one’s all about showcasing the value of #sustainable real assets. We’ve lined up two fantastic panels: one on valuing #social impact in the built environment and the other on the financial value of green buildings. Plus, my successor, Steven Pringle, will dive into the latest #ESG trends and reveal the 2024 Oceania Sector Leaders! To wrap things up (including my GRESB journey), we'll head to the Harbour View Hotel rooftop for GRESB: The Afterparty. There will be drinks, laughs, and the obligatory (and slightly questionable) musical performance. Don’t miss out - registration is free! Speakers include: Davina Rooney, Matthew Clifford, Georgia Warren-Myers, Jack Noonan, Justine Felton, Michael Traill, Eleanor Sondergeld, Kar Mei Tang, Nina James, and Mona Benisi. Kindly sponsored by: Cushman & Wakefield and Scaler https://lnkd.in/gUfCad4K #SustainableRealAssets #ESGbenchmarking #ValuingSustainability #GRESBtheAfterparty

“Right now, too many data points are being requested by too many different stakeholders, and sooner or later, this will need to be streamlined and reduced. We’re seeing a phase of over-correction, but eventually, the focus will shift to the ESG KPIs that truly matter. It may not happen soon, but it’s inevitable.” – Mahesh Roy Couldn’t agree more, but as an industry, we must come together to accelerate this convergence asap. With climate tipping points looming, we simply don’t have the luxury of time. Let’s prioritize collaboration to drive focused, meaningful ESG impact that truly aligns with the climate goals. @EPRA (European Public Real Estate Association) ESG summit
