South Carolina AHEC builds and supports the healthcare workforce South Carolina needs through a focus on recruiting, retaining, and educating healthcare professionals. South Carolina AHEC connects students and professionals with the tools, training, and resources necessary to provide quality healthcare, with a focus on primary care for rural and underserved communities. The South Carolina Area Health Education Consortium (South Carolina AHEC) began in 1972 as one of the 11 originally funded projects of the federal AHEC program. We have successfully grown into a system that works closely with the state's institutions of higher education, healthcare providers, community partners and others to educate, recruit, and retain healthcare providers in South Carolina. The purpose of the Evening of Impact and Reflection was to showcase and celebrate student-led projects focused on addressing food insecurity. Through partnerships with local community agencies, students explored and developed solutions to combat hunger and promote sustainable food security in the community. This event provided an opportunity to highlight the meaningful contributions of students and community partners! We are delighted that we were able to foster dialogue around actionable solutions to one of South Carolina's most pressing challenges. This project would not have been successful without the following allies for good! Lowcountry Food Bank, Foodshare Bamberg, South Carolina Office of Rural Health, EPI Pathways Powered By Voorhees, Clemson Rural Health, Colleton Medical Center, and Clemson Health Clinic- Orangeburg, Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina-SNAP, and Student Basic Needs Coalition. Thank you to high school and college students representing Health Careers Academy 2024-2025, Voorhees University, and Claflin University.
