In honor of Veterans Day and National Veterans Small Business Week, we're sharing again this incredible tribute video to SCACED co-founder Liz Santagati produced by our member Upstate Warrior Solution & Mark Berry! From honorably serving in our nation's military to championing the community development movement in South Carolina, Liz's impact has left an indelible mark on all of those around her and communities across our state.
Our veterans' stories of military service are endlessly fascinating. They're also extremely valuable because they not only form that individual but can also impact the communities they call home. We had the privilege of sitting down with Liz Santagati to hear her unique perspective of serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. Liz's indomitable spirit and commitment to service led to her later co-founding the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development (SCACED). Thank you for your service to our country and to the great state of South Carolina, Liz! What a legacy you've built! #upstatewarrior #veterans #military #stories #storiesmatter #vietnamwar Tiffany Santagati Bernie Mazyck Amber Stewart Kenneth Harvin Bushnell Brunson Video: Mark Berry

SCACED’s Roberto Stewart moderated a panel, “Succession Planning,” with members Brianna Jackson Center for Heirs' Property Preservation and Dorothea Bernique Increasing H.O.P.E Financial Training Center during South Carolina Community Loan Fund’s LEAP Alumni Reunion Event today at The Opportunity Center. Panelists discussed best practices around succession planning and long-term investing for business owners and entrepreneurs. “We recommend before investing that you move forward with safety and understand your level of risk tolerance,” said Bernique. “Succession planning starts at the beginning of your business journey and not at the end. Key man insurance is essential for all business owners.”

South Carolina State Senator Deon Tedder served as guest speaker at SCACED member South Carolina Community Loan Fund’s 2nd Annual LEAP Alumni Reunion this morning at The Opportunity Center. Senator Tedder delivered insights to how nonprofits and small businesses can apply for funding from the state legislature’s annual budget and from corporations who locate in the region, such as Boeing and Volvo. “Part of our state legislative black caucus’ objective is to help minority businesses find funding. Many don’t know that businesses and nonprofits are eligible to receive funding from the state budget by requesting a budget submission from your local representative.”
