关于我们
As of July 1, 2024, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has been split into two new agencies. This is the South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH), the former health component of DHEC. Our name may change, but our commitment to protecting, promoting and improving the health and well-being of everyone in South Carolina is stronger than ever. DPH will build on DHEC’s legacy, continuously innovating to achieve best practices that help improve our state’s overall health with the goal of becoming the healthiest state in our nation. Our goal for this new agency is to instill a people-first approach to all that we do. This includes working with our partners, communities, and others to help every South Carolinian have the access, resources, and information they need to make decisions that enhance their health and have access to the highest quality, safe health care. ?? Today is #RuralHealthDay, and we can’t think of a better time to talk about how crucial it is to normalize talking about mental health in rural communities. Living in a rural area presents different advantages and disadvantages when it comes to caring for your mental health. While these spaces can provide comfort, community, and tranquility, they can also be isolating and have limited available mental health resources. At Mental Health America, we recognize the importance of addressing rural mental health head-on. That’s why we partnered with West Fraser, a global wood products company, to create our Rural Mental Health Resource Hub, a space to raise awareness, break down stigma, and provide resources to support the mental well-being of those living in rural communities. Together, we’re committed to ensuring everyone, no matter where they live, has access to the mental health care they deserve. mhanational.org/rural

This #FeatureFriday, we’re celebrating the incredible work of our Section of Oral Health (SOH)! The SOH has secured over $2.8 million in grant funding from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to support oral health initiatives across South Carolina. This funding will fuel essential programs aimed at reducing oral health disparities and enhancing preventive care throughout the state. “With the new grant funding dedicated to enhancing oral health within our state, we are taking a significant step toward ensuring that communities in need have additional resources to receive oral health care. This investment not only brightens smiles but also strengthens our collective health, paving the way for a healthier, more equitable future,” said Mike Tredway, MSPH, the Section of Oral Health Director. ?? A look at what’s to come: —The SC Integration through Demonstration (SCID) Project will expand access to integrated preventive oral health care for children ages 0-11 in underserved areas. —The Advancing Oral Health in SC Initiative will target communities along the I-95 corridor to address disparities in oral health, focusing on surveillance, community water fluoridation, and medical-dental integration. Through these innovative initiatives, we’re making strides toward a healthier, more equitable future for all South Carolinians — and their smiles! ?? #publichealth #oralhealth
