Exciting news from the world of structural seismic engineering research! Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering Prof. Dr.-Ing. Akanshu Sharma and his team at Purdue University are performing seismic tests on two full-size, two-story reinforced concrete buildings at the Robert L. and Terry L. Bowen Laboratory. Their project focuses on developing a practical retrofitting technique using modern anchorage technology, which could significantly enhance the safety of vulnerable buildings in earthquake-prone regions worldwide. This innovative approach has the potential to be a game-changer in earthquake resilience, improving the safety of structures and the people who live and work in them. Our team recently installed multiple strain gages on the structure to gather critical data on its performance over time. By closely monitoring the bridge's behavior, we aim to provide valuable insights into its fatigue life and help extend its lifespan.
