We are deeply saddened by the loss of Howard Garrity. A true inspiration, Howard was a tireless advocate for small businesses, particularly those owned by Veterans. His passion and dedication were instrumental in the development of numerous Veteran small business training programs in our area. We were honored to collaborate with him on these initiatives and will miss his guidance and friendship. ? Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

This World Kindness Day, we celebrate the power of kindness in entrepreneurship. Every thoughtful gesture—whether it is a vendor going the extra mile or a customer showing appreciation—helps create a supportive community. Here are a few ways to embrace kindness in your business: ?? Support Local: Choose to shop small and uplift local businesses. ?? Show Appreciation: A simple thank you can go a long way in building lasting relationships. ?? Share Kind Words: Leave positive reviews and testimonials to encourage fellow entrepreneurs. ?? Collaborate: Partner with others in your community to foster mutual growth. ?? Give Back: Consider holding a fundraiser or donating a portion of your profits to local charities or causes. Embracing kindness as a core value in business practices helps create an environment where everyone thrives!

Honoring our veterans this Veterans Day for their courage, dedication, and the freedoms they’ve protected. Many veterans and their families bring that same commitment to entrepreneurship, strengthening our communities and boosting our local economies. Thank you for your service and your ongoing contributions!

Today, we’re spotlighting one of our incredible clients, Tom Baudendistel. Tom is a veteran and founder of Take Adventures Everyday, a kayak rental business along the beautiful Chenango River! Reflecting on his business journey, Tom shared: “The SBDC at BU was incredibly helpful in navigating all the compliance details of starting a new business in our region. Robin also introduced me to the Binghamton Vet Center, and we look forward to building connections with local veterans as we expand our water recreation offerings.” With guidance from his Business Advisor, Robin Alpaugh, Tom created a unique experience for adventure seekers. Guests can drop off their vehicles at Beer Tree in Port Crane—a local favorite microbrewery—and be transported by van to the launch point in downtown Chenango Forks. Robin also connected Tom to the Binghamton Veteran Center, helping him forge valuable relationships to support local veterans. Tomorrow is Veterans Day and the start of National Veterans Small Business Week—a time to honor all veterans and recognize the entrepreneurial spirit of veteran business owners like Tom who inspire us and strengthen our communities.

?? Throwback to 1989! Pictured here are two legends of the NYSBDC: Jim King, our founding State Director, and Tom Reynolds, who’s been a pillar in various roles and is now an advisor at the Albany SBDC. They’re watching a “high-tech” video disc on business startup strategies with “Harry,” one of the innovative tools the SBDC offered clients back in the day! As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we honor the legacy and dedication of leaders like Jim and Tom, who have helped shape New York’s small business community. #TBT #40YearsOfImpact #NYSBDC #GratitudeInBiz Photo Credit: N.L.
