National Association of Plant Breeders Borlaug scholars shine at the African Plant Breeding Academy. Evan Groover met with Donn Cummings and Allen Van Deynze at CIFOR-ICRAF graduation and AOCC workshop in Nairobi on Oct 11th. Long time supporter, Stella Salvo (Bayer) also popped in. Evan, a PhD candidate at UC Berkeley, Innovative Genomics Institute with David Savage (IGI, primary instructor for AfPBA) and 2024 NAPB Borlaug Scholar is a primary instructor for the African Plant Breeding Academy CRISPR class. The African Plant Breeding Academy graduates its second class on CRISPR. This comprehensive professional research program is an initiative of the African Orphan Crops Consortium and managed by the UCDavis Seed Biotechnology Center. This cohort joins 10 other scientists from CRISPR class one and 151 African plant breeders trained in the Academy. These movers and shakers are leading a movement to attain nutritional security for Africa.
