Yesterday, I had the privilege of addressing the Harris County Commissioners Court alongside STCL SBA President, Emily Blanco, and TMSL SBA President, Taylar Hall to support the addition of new district courts in Harris County. After thoughtful discussion, the Commissioners approved five of the nine proposed courts in a 3-1-1 vote—an important step toward safeguarding the growth of the Houston legal market. As a law student, I’ve seen firsthand how courtroom delays and overwhelming caseloads impact access to justice. One thing is clear: justice delayed is justice denied. But expanding our judiciary isn’t just about reducing backlogs—it’s about ensuring fairness, efficiency, and opportunity for those who rely on our courts. For students and recent graduates, these new courts also mean greater opportunities to build careers here in Houston, reinforcing our city’s reputation as a legal powerhouse. Thank you to Judge?Beau Miller?and Judge Lauren Reeder for leading this initiative and bringing together Houston’s law schools to advocate for meaningful change. Your efforts are helping shape our profession's future and ensuring that Harris County remains a hub for legal excellence. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these new courts will bring!
