Now, more than ever, local action is crucial to build safe, healthy, and climate resilient communities. Last week, Bay Area voters took important steps to pass impactful state and local measures. ?? By passing Proposition 4, California will invest $10 billion to protect against wildfires, drought, and sea level rise and flooding. It will also address urban heat, conserve natural lands, and promote sustainable agriculture. ?? Voters in Petaluma (Measure Y) and San Mateo (Measure T) passed ordinances to encourage compact development and limit urban sprawl, which will reduce commutes and pollution, create more walkable and bikeable cities, support the use of public transit, and preserve open space. ?? Voters in San Bruno (Measure Q) and Santa Clara (Measure I) passed local bonds to upgrade stormwater and other critical infrastructure to protect residents from more intense storms and sea level rise. We are inspired by these local victories for our communities. Save The Bay is ready to protect the progress we’ve made, and to work with our many partners to help California maintain environmental leadership in the face of future federal attacks. ?? Robert So

Meet the newest Habitat Restoration Team member, Mimi! Mimi joined Save The Bay about 3 months ago as our Restoration Operations Specialist and dove in headfirst to planting season ?????? Favorite CA Native plant : Alkali Marsh Aster What inspired you to work in the environmental field? Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall-Kimmerer and lots of passionate and kind science teachers ?? What do you love most about what you do? I love seeing students find joy and empowerment in being outdoors and I love getting to see people and wildlife using the spaces we restore. When you're not in the "office" someone will find you: Biking around San Francisco or frolicking with friends in the redwoods. In September, the Habitat Restoration Team welcomed our Fall-Spring education program season once again! During this time, students have been visiting the shoreline and experiencing field trips with our amazing environmental educators. Following the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) curriculum, our team is able to create meaningful connections between the classroom and students' local outdoor spaces. Here is some feedback we received from third graders. Their words and illustrations reflect the passion that the next generation of environmental activists carry in their hearts. ????
