“Last year, the fields were burned. We had no water. We walked far and queued at the spring, but there was so little water.” – 12-year-old Atika from Indonesia. This #WorldWaterDay, we’re reminded that for children like Atika, water isn’t just survival—it’s opportunity. For years, Atika and her friends walked long, exhausting journeys just to fetch water. But now, thanks to solar-powered technology, water flows closer to home—giving families what they need to drink, cook, and grow food. ?? No more dangerous journeys. ?? More time for learning and dreams. ?? A stronger, more resilient future. Millions of children worldwide still face water scarcity. But together, we can create lasting change—one community at a time.

We give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm in the US & around the world
关于我们
Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Recognized for our commitment to accountability, innovation and collaboration, our work takes us into the heart of communities, where we help children and families help themselves. We work with other organizations, governments, non-profits and a variety of local partners while maintaining our own independence without political agenda or religious orientation. When disaster strikes around the world, Save the Children is there to save lives with food, medical care and education and remains to help communities rebuild through long-term recovery programs. As quickly and as effectively as Save the Children responds to tsunamis and civil conflict, it works to resolve the ongoing struggles children face every day — poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease — and replaces them with hope for the future.

The futures of millions of children – particularly those in rural communities – depend on federal education programs. These programs help ensure children can access the learning opportunities they need to thrive. Any cuts to these programs could have lifelong consequences for kids. Without this support, rural schools and communities will be forced to make devastating choices, potentially closing essential programs that children and families depend on. Now is not the time to turn our backs on these children. The administration and Congress must protect vital education programs for America’s kids. Read our full statement: https://bit.ly/4hAr4ko

This International Day of Happiness, we’re reminded of our why—to help create conditions where children can be happy and thrive. There’s no better return than a child’s smile. We asked kids in our programs worldwide what makes them happy: ?? Eylül is happy about the changes in her school, affected by the 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye. Save the Children helped build a library and a temporary learning space, supporting learning, creativity, and socialization. ?? Faduma is happy holding her little brother Abdi, who is recovering from malnutrition caused by the severe drought in Somaliland. Save the Children runs the health center that supported Abdi’s recovery. ?? Reyhan is happy playing with her cat Mizgin. Displaced by the conflict in Syria, she and her family had to flee, but she refused to leave her cat behind. Save the Children supports the shelter where Reyhan’s family is living while they dream of going back home soon. What makes you happy? In honor of International Day of Happiness, share what brings you joy in the comments! ?? #InternationalDayOfHappiness

The brief ceasefire gave the children in Gaza six weeks to catch their breath after enduring over a year of physical and mental trauma from the deadly violence of war. But it wasn't enough—aid blockages prevented them and their families from getting the support they desperately need. ? The resumption of hostilities in Gaza plunges children back into a catastrophic reality??? Today, we mourn the dozens of children among the hundreds reportedly killed by airstrikes overnight.? ? Children need more than just a pause in the violence -they need a complete end to this war and to the cycle of violence that has already marked?their lives?in Gaza since birth. ? A definitive ceasefire?and full humanitarian access?is the only way to ensure children are protected from harm.
