??? How can national policies address climate change and nutrition simultaneously? ? Save the Children experts in nutrition, climate change and health are answering this question through our work on the USAID MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership program. ??? ? A MOMENTUM #webinar earlier this week presented the findings of its desk review of 50 national policies across sectors in eight countries: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Nepal, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda.? ? Save the Children’s Managing Director of Nutrition, Habtamu Fekadu Lahstew, and Senior Advisor for Global Health, Rachel Taylor joined patrick webb and Rebekah Pinto from USAID, Kondwani Mpeniuwawa from the Malawi Ministry of Health, and Koki Agarwal from Jhpiego for this insightful discussion.? ? Some Key Takeaways: ?? Malnutrition and Climate Change — #ClimateChange exacerbates all forms of #malnutrition, threatening the resilience of at-risk populations, particularly women and children. ?? Opportunities for Integrated Action — Despite the challenges, this nexus presents significant opportunities to enhance both human well-being and environmental health. ? ?? Timely Action Needed — Countries must integrate nutrition programming approaches into climate policy frameworks, such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and revise National Nutrition Plans with a climate lens. ? ?? Leverage Global Moments —Events like #COP29 and its dedicated Health Day and Food, Water, and Agriculture Day, are key for #advocacy and raising awareness. ?? Practical Solutions —The report identifies specific examples and makes direct recommendations for integrated action at a national policy level.? ? ?? “The effects of climate change on malnutrition are already catastrophic. Boo! ?? Happy #Halloween from our family to yours! Spooky season can be fun for the whole family — trick-or-treating, dressing up in costumes and our favorite — pumpkin decorating! In Mountain View, Arkansas, we coordinated with community partners to facilitate a pumpkin decorating contest for the local elementary school. The twist? Kids had to decorate them as their favorite storybook characters. Teachers voted on a winning pumpkin for each grade level. ?? Here are this year’s winners! Can you guess which characters? The health care system in Gaza has been decimated amid ongoing hostilities. Save the Children recently opened a second Primary Health Care Center in Khan Younis to provide vital health care and nutrition services to families living in the area. Our team is doing everything we can but only a definitive ceasefire and humanitarian access will allow for children to get the care they need.
