What could it be. . .a view of the sea?? ?? ?? Artist Amy Bartlett Wright is working on a new mural for Save The Bay's Hamilton Family Aquarium and giving updates along the way! Check back here every Monday for a sneak peek! #MuralMonday "Our Set Up complete, the canvas is now ready to receive the approved design. Before painting any mural, I prepare a small model to scale. Early planning in small scale is key to decision making on a large canvas such as this. The canvas is stretched, primed and ready for paint! My first layer of paint will cover the canvas but will be in only one color! The Underpainting is usually a warm earth color such as burnt sienna or burnt umber. I can easily control the value of this one color, making it darker or lighter by the amount of water I use with the paint. The warm color is lighter with a watery wash, and darker with less amount of water in the paint. Covering the full canvas with this warm value structure helps my color layers feel more real and contributes to integration of the mural as a whole. The Underpainting establishes the complete composition in one short four hour painting session. And then, once it is dry, color layers will go on top. The Underpainting influences the mural in many positive ways. When I am ready to add color, I will quickly know which color goes where on the canvas, matched with the approved design. Size of canvas is 9 by 34 feet." - Amy Bartlett Wright

This post is flagged . . . as awesome! Save The Bay's Narragansett Riverkeeper, Kate McPherson reports from the field on a recent outing with Ian O'Hara, one of our restoration ecologists: "Flagging wetlands with Save The Bay's habitat restoration team on a chilly morning! It's actually a lot easier to see the edge with the leaves off, and it makes the survey work more accurate as well. Stay tuned for public workshop announcements for this and other wetland and river restoration projects coming soon." - Kate
