Is agroforestry increasing in the US? A new publication reviews the agroforestry results of the 2017 and 2022 Census of Agriculture, finding an overall increase in farms reporting agroforestry practices. The paper also addresses the need for more detailed and accurate data of agroforestry adoption across the US: "These time series Census of Agriculture data fill an important gap in our understanding of agroforestry extent across the United States and offer the most robust, longitudinal information to assess agroforestry use over time... However, factors unique to agroforestry may lead to an over- or undercount of producers reporting agroforestry when filling out the COA or other regional agroforestry surveys." The Cropping Systems Scientist will: -Plan and carry out a program of research that aligns with the Savanna Institute’s agroforestry research strategy in systems-level questions related to agroforestry systems design and tree crop production, including overstory-understory interactions and multifunctional outcomes and agronomic/horticultural management practices for tree crop species of interest to the Savanna Institute -Ensure that research results are disseminated to scientists, farmers, and other stakeholders in a timely manner through peer-reviewed publications, outreach materials, etc.
