Thanks to everyone who came out to our pancake breakfast and open house this past Saturday! It was a pleasure to host all of you. We can't wait to tell you about our next open house later this summer!

Media members spoke with Deputy Fire Chief, William Handy today after an unintentional brush fire off Ogeechee Rd. was finally extinguished. The fire first started in the morning of March 26th. Later that same day, units were called to the Red Roof Inn for a structure fire that displaced 70 individuals. Two major fires happening on March 26th with no reported injuries. We’re now happy to say that the events of March 26th are officially over after extinguishing the brush fire on April 19th!

SFD’s rookie recruits visited Savannah’s water distribution plant for a tour of the facility. During the tour, recruits learned about the work involved to make sure we always have water when accessing fire hydrants. Our recruits are on their 4th week of class and are learning a lot!

SFD recently conducted trench rescue simulation training. This exercise simulates rescuing individuals trapped under a concrete slab without injuring the victim further. You can tell from the time-lapse that it’s a very tedious process. We can do a lot more than just putting out fires!

Savannah Fire’s explorer program meets each first and third Tuesday of each month. This program gives kids ages 14 to 20 hands on experience of what the fire industry is like. A lot of the kids in the program are even planning on joining the Savannah Fire Department once they finish school.

Congratulations to one of our camp ignite alum, Tania Marion for graduating SPD’s academy. Camp instructors, fire engineer Boyce and advanced firefighter Shore were there to celebrate this big accomplishment.
