The zksync anchoring contracts were deployed and the genesis batch was committed on Bitcoin. The best part, the cost to submit zk proofs on Bitcoin is ~60% cheaper than on Ethereum making it more economically feasible. Let’s take a closer look at the building blocks of SatsChain that transform Bitcoin ???? SatsChain is a trustless and modular execution protocol that comprises of a few internal modules which work together to make Bitcoin Turing complete. In other words, simply smarter. Essentially, Satschain enables smart contract capabilities on Bitcoin. Let’s go through them and understand what each of them does: ??Bitcoin Core All the transactions which are compatible with SatsChain are submitted on Bitcoin blockchain which we call as Bitcoin core. All the transactions are processed, mined and settled on the OG chain. ??Protocol Listener The Protocol listener does exactly what it says in the name. It listens to or reads the incoming transactions and filters out the transactions that are meant for SatsChain. It also filters out the positive and negative BTC transactions. ??Sats Intel Sats Intel validates the transactions meant for SatsChain It also decrypts the transactions and does RLP decoding. The Sats Intel module also checks for gas fees, balance of the wallet etc for the feasibility of transaction. ??Sats Nuclei Sats Nuclei is the core engine of SatsChain This is where the transaction execution and state updation occurs. The Nuclei also contains a custom BESU client. A BESU client is a set of Ethereum protocols. Sats Nuclei leverages this custom BESU client and a conversion layer to achieve compatibility with the EVM engine. ??SRP (Sats Reverse Processor) SRP observes the events emitted and transactions executed on the EVM Engine. It also enables BTC refunds for failed transactions and BTC transfers. ??Explorer The Explorer makes it possible to visualize the transaction details similar to Etherscan on the ETH ecosystem. Compass module brings BTC and South together! Let’s take a closer look at how ?? EVM ?? Compass Module ?? Bitcoin Compass Module acts as an interface between Bitcoin and Solidity and makes Bitcoin code EVM compatible. There are 2 major components in the Compass Module: 1) Compass Solidity Library The Compass Solidity Library contains a set of pre-written code to help EVM become compatible to Bitcoin nuances. What are Bitcoin nuances, you ask? They are Bitcoin Contract IDs, wallets, transaction ids, inscriptions etc. Devs can use this library to make these compatible with EVM. 2) Compass Layer EVM doesn’t understand Bitcoin code, addresses and inscriptions. The compass layer makes this possible. It essentially translates Bitcoin infrastructure elements, such as wallet addresses and other components, into a format that is readable and compatible with the EVM. Let's do a deep dive on the Engine that runs SatsChain - Nuclei Engine! ???? The Nuclei Engine is one of the most critical components of SatsChain. It provides an operational framework and the computational infrastructure necessary for executing and managing Smart contracts on the network. The SatsChain Nuclei Engine consists of 4 main components. Let's break it down to see what each one does: 1) Interface Layer Interface layer acts more like a facade for all the incoming requests which get decorated in JSON RPC format before passing them further to the internal modules. 2) Networking Layer The Networking module consists of various components which deserialise the transactions and ensures the validity of the signed data being passed on BTC nodes for SatsChain. It has RLP decoders and Clique protocol in place to compute the final command/action being intended by the user. It also processes the positive BTC txns if any and accordingly sends it to SRP engine. 3) Execution Layer At the heart of the Nuclei Engine is its execution core, which processes all the Smart contract transactions. This basically consists of a modified Besu engine that caters to the specifics of the Bitcoin network. All the transactions get executed here and the new state is computed for every program/contract. 4) Storage Layer This module handles the byte storage of the state of the program at any given time. For instance, if someone holds 1000 $SACH tokens, the information will be available in the storage layer. Together, these components of the Nuclei Engine facilitate the retrieval, processing, state management and execution of transactions within its environment.
