Aarti Mohan joined a panel titled "Towards a Gender-Inclusive Transition for India's E-Mobility Workforce" at WRI India's #Uddeshya2025. While there is a large opportunity for #greenjobs to be unlocked, it is unclear how many of these roles will be filled by women. India has a vibrant skilling ecosystem. However, companies are hesitant to invest in mobilising women because of challenges beyond skilling, such as the need for flexible work hours, transportation, and childcare. Aarti brought up the following opportunities to ensure inclusion as we build urban mobility systems: 1. When we look at the new generation of startups in the EV mobility sector, ensuring women have a place from the beginning to ensure inclusivity is at the heart of their operations in a holistic manner. 2. Women constitute 25% of India's entrepreneurial ecosystem. We can leverage this presence to fill needs such as #EV charging, battery solutions, and distributing goods and create more roles for women. 3. Indian women are getting married later, and in states, such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh, this also coincides with higher enrolments in education. In all Indian states except Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal, the average age at marriage has increased between 2017 and 2020. When juxtaposed with enrolment trends in education, however, over half of all states have lower female enrolment in education. Over the last five years, India’s #sports budget has grown by 1.6x, swelling from ~$260 million in 2019 to ~$405 million in 2024, with sports projects worth $2.39 billion in development as part of the National Infrastructure Pipeline. However, the country’s sports budget per capita amounts to USD 0.30 in 2024, paling in comparison to larger sporting economies such as the UK (USD 9) and Australia (USD 11).?To become a true “sporting nation” that fosters both champions and a healthy society, India needs collaboration among those driving high-performance sports, franchise sport and sports for development, along with the investors supporting these initiatives. Ummeed Child Development Center is a non-profit organisation with a mission to help children with, and at risk of, DD be included in society and reach their full potential. They enlisted Sattva Consulting to conduct a study and identify the support needs of parents and caregivers of children with DD, and the role played by the Family Resource Centre (FRC) set up at Ummeed in addressing these needs. We conducted a qualitative study over 4 months, of a diverse range of 50 stakeholders that play critical roles in the life of a child with a Developmental Disability (DD). On February 1st and 3rd, 2025, Karnataka Model Schools Pathways Programme (KMSPP) students from Chitradurga and Tumkur experienced the #LivingLightlyUtsav — a celebration of the traditions and history of pastoralist communities. Many of the students who attended came from pastoralist families, and were able to trace their communities' presence on the Deccan map to understand how these landscapes have supported #pastoralism for generations. They participated in conversations on grassland #conservation, challenges faced by the community, and the meaning of land and belonging. The Model Schools Collaborative, spearheaded by Sattva Consulting, brings together esteemed donors such as the JSW Foundation, Young India Philanthropic Pledge, Gates Foundation, and Swiss Re GBS India to transform 210 schools in Karnataka under KMSPP. The programme is being implemented by the India Literacy Project, Sikshana Foundation, QUEST Alliance, Udhyam Learning Foundation, Gramalaya and Yuva Unstoppable, with monitoring and evaluation conducted by Sambodhi Research and Communications Pvt. Ltd. This initiative is paving the way for the State Government of Karnataka to develop model schools through frameworks co-created with the Department of School Education and Literacy.
