How do you say goodbye to an absolute legend in the construction industry? Unfortunately, we are still trying to figure that out. With deep sadness we had to say goodbye to Paul Hopton, better known as PD to everyone lucky enough to have met him. Our clients always knew the “A Team” arrived when PD was on their job site. His coworkers knew him as the man with the master plan. And everyone knew PD as a superhero walking around like an everyday man. We wanted to share with everyone some of the ways PD has been described by the privileged few of us who worked with him: “You just can’t ask for a better man.” “Such a wealth of knowledge and deep down had one of the biggest hearts.” “Always happy to jump in and help anyone anywhere anytime no matter how difficult a task it was it was always?‘ain’t nothing but a thing’” “This man had knowledge beyond what most will ever learn and a passion for this trade that I have never experienced” “I told him once that he was ‘one in a million’ and he informed me that ‘so was a mosquito’” “I know we will all miss the way PD made us feel - looked after and secure - like he had the answer to everything so we had nothing to worry about.” His contributions to our industry are beyond measure and his expertise will be surely missed. We will forever cherish his memory. We want to ask everyone to please keep PD’s family in their thoughts and prayers. Satchel got into the eclipse spirit yesterday afternoon with an ad hoc viewing party in the parking lot. There were lots of Ooooooooos & Aaaaahhhhhhs as we watched the amazing natural spectacle of the moon passing between us and sun. Apart from eclipse viewing glasses we had a pin hole tube and the brilliant images cast by our trees' leafy branches. Last week Satchel Construction officially open our new Greenville office with a ribbon cutting and reception. We'd like to thank everyone who attended the event, including Mayor White and his staff. It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the passing of a member of the Satchel family. This past weekend, John Williams, one of our Site Superintendents passed away unexpectedly at home. John came to Satchel in 2016 bringing with him a wealth of construction experience, a proven track record of successful large scale projects and a personality which always brought out the best in everyone he met. John’s dedication, work ethic and institutional knowledge of all things construction made him stand out, but it was his personal rapport with coworkers & friends alike for which he’ll truly be remembered. Our office today is a somber place and while this news is immensely sad for everyone, each of us know that we are richer for knowing John and thankful for the opportunity to work and learn from him.
