On Wednesday, our Director of Emergency Services Allison Brooks sat on a panel at the Housing & Homeless Coalition's Annual State of Homelessness event. Allison and other leaders shared their expertise on the state of homelessness, and how to move the community forward through the challenges faced with the rising level of homelessness in Syracuse. Our Emergency Services department is made up of 13 programs that support individuals, including veterans, who may be experiencing one or more of the following: homelessness, housing vulnerability, unemployment, mental health, substance use, physical/emotional/behavioral disabilities, and more.? We are excited to honor our friends at Syracuse University Office Of Community Engagement as recipients of the 2024 Community Team Spirit award, which will be presented at our annual Civic Celebration on October 8. This award is dedicated to a partner who is committed to positive, sustainable change while prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Office of Community Engagement at Syracuse University exemplifies team spirit, and consistently demonstrates their dedication to positive change, whether on campus through student organizations, or off campus through civic and community engagement. For more than three decades, Syracuse University has partnered with The Salvation Army to combat food insecurity in the community. Originally founded by Syracuse University’s Coach Macpherson as ‘Dome Day’, this annual fundraiser, which takes place at the JMA Wireless dome, has provided thousands of local families with food and other services through donations to the Emergency Food Pantry. We hope you will join us! Visit sasyr.org/civic for tickets and sponsorship opportunities.
