The design of the Tisch Center (aka The Lizzie) at The Frederick Gunn School brings people together by creating a sustainable, contextual, and dynamic space for the future. The building unites diverse learning environments, and it acknowledges different viewpoints and perspectives to turn ideas into action. We love hearing Sasaki designers Marta Guerra-Pastrián and Vinicius Gorgati reflect on the intentions and outcomes of the project and seeing this building teeming with students! 'Urban Design and the?Architecture?of Place' I recently spoke at the Architecture of the Metropolis conference?in?Gdansk, Poland about some of the core ideas and underpinning principles of our?urban design?work at Sasaki. The international?conference was sponsored by the City of Gdansk and featured speakers from across Europe. It was wonderful to connect with?practitioners, representatives of government authorities, researchers and scientists about interdisciplinary design for cities. While in Gdansk, I also had the opportunity to present a lecture on 'Sasaki: Recent Works' at the Gdańsk University of Technology. #UrbanDesign #Architecture #LandscapeArchitecture #Cities

At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall embodies the spirit of 21st-century teaching and learning with its theme: "Making Learning Visible." This innovative building brings the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) together under one roof, fostering collaboration among faculty, students, and visitors. ?? Key features include: Three "neighborhood clusters" designed for classrooms, faculty offices, and community spaces. A vibrant “Living Room” lounge that serves as the heart of the building. Flexible, tech-enabled learning environments supporting hybrid and immersive education. By breaking down departmental silos and creating spaces for connection and creativity, Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall redefines what an academic hub can be. We're proud to partner with the University of Nebraska in designing a space that supports the educators of tomorrow. #EducationDesign #CollaborativeSpaces #21stCenturyLearning #SasakiBuilds

At Sasaki, we believe waterfronts can connect people, nature, and communities. Our latest video celebrates the transformative power of thoughtful design along the water, with a special highlight of the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade in Los Angeles. Opened earlier this year, this vibrant public space reimagines a once-industrial shoreline, creating a destination that invites exploration, connection, and reflection. We are proud of this work together with the Port of Los Angeles. Now, you can dive into the story of how we’re shaping the future of waterfronts. ?? by Reza Monahan and team #WaterfrontDesign #UrbanResilience #SasakiDesign #LosAngeles Philip Dugdale Zachary Chrisco

As Boston Harbor Now and the Harborwalk celebrate 40 years of providing public access to the waterfront, we're taking a look in our library and archives to better understand Sasaki's historic work with the Boston Redevelopment Authority and legacy project at Boston Waterfront Park. In order to activate the water's edge, today's designers must balance rising sea levels with public access. Sasaki's environmental analysis in 1979 recognized the need to prepare for 100-year flooding, and this still stands as the biggest issue facing the waterfront today. Sasaki's work has been featured in Landscape Journal with Allyson Mendenhall as a co-author! This recognition highlights the value of practice-based research in design. Thank you, Landscape Architecture Foundation, for showcasing how research drives impactful design.
A new, LAF-led collaborative article, "Practice-Based Research Now: Purpose, Approach, and a Proposition", is out in the November issue of Landscape Journal. The full text is available for free thanks to the authors/firms who covered the cost to make this article open access. The article contributes to the dialogue on practice-based research in design through personal statements from the authors, interviews and surveys with 21 design firms, and a proposition and call to action. "Landscape architecture practice needs a new framework for collective knowledge‐building. This takes cooperation and infrastructure." https://lnkd.in/g8vaXggR This effort grew out of roundtable discussions organized by LAF, and we thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone to bring this to fruition. Thank you to all the co-authors: Megan Barnes at LAF, Anya Domlesky at SWA, Allison Harvey at OJB, Lisa H. at LandDesign, Eric Kramer at Reed Hilderbrand, Allyson Mendenhall at Sasaki, Margaret Plumb at Design Workshop, and Rebecca Popowsky at OLIN. Special thanks to Jim LaGro, Robert Ryan, and to all who participated in the surveys and interviews.

Sasaki worked with the State of Minnesota's Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board to reimagine the Minnesota State Capitol District. The Capitol Mall Design Framework, based on the 2040 Comprehensive Plan, introduces 8 Big Ideas to reshape this historic area into a more accessible, inclusive, and vibrant space for all Minnesotans. ?? Through a rigorous community engagement process involving over 14,000 voices, Sasaki worked with state, county, and community leaders to envision a Capitol Mall that represents the state’s rich cultural diversity. By bridging past and future, the plan creates spaces for work, play, and civic life while respecting the legacy of Wabasha Hill and connecting seamlessly to downtown St. Paul. The framework paves the way for new programming, ADA-compliant facilities, and sustainable infrastructure that makes this iconic site More Welcoming for More Minnesotans.
