    Happy National Entrepreneur Day! If it weren’t for Alexandra Zandvliet, Sarmentine wouldn’t exist. In 2012, Alexandra moved to California from France ???? , leaving behind her career as a midwife to support her husband, Louis, career in the wine industry. While settling into her new life, she missed the authentic French bread she grew up with. Determined to recreate those familiar flavors and memories, Alexandra began baking bread for her family. ?? As fate would have it, Alexandra’s family moved back to France for a year. During this time, Alexandra deepened her baking knowledge and honed her skills through an internship program, perfecting the craft of bread-making. Upon returning to California, Alexandra began offering her homemade bread to friends she had met through her children’s school. It wasn’t long before others at the school started noticing the fresh, delicious, organic loaves and asking where they could get some. Curious families would approach Alexandra, and she began selling bread to them as well. Due to her limited availability, she could only bake a few days a week and set up a small stand at the school to distribute her bread. Over time, her customer base grew steadily. When COVID-19 hit, Alexandra realized how much she loved baking and wanted to continue serving her loyal customers. To adapt to the challenges of the pandemic, she began offering home delivery, keeping her passion alive while ensuring her community still had access to fresh bread. By the time the world reopened, they decided to open a brick-and-mortar bakery and, in August 2021, proudly opened Sarmentine’s first location in Santa Rosa at 52 Mission Cir.
