We're excited to be back at the University of Maine for another project. This time, Sargent employee-owners are handling the earthwork and storm drain improvements for expansions at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena and the Shawn Walsh Hockey Center. The project is part of UMaine’s Athletics Facilities Master Plan, funded by a $170 million investment from the Harold Alfond Foundation. Crews will relocate utilities, excavate foundations, install storm drains, and create a new parking lot. Thank you to all the employee-owners making this project a Win in the Field! Congratulations to Nelson “Danny” Whipple on his well-deserved retirement after an incredible career spanning four different Sargent companies: Yankee Construction, Sargent Constructors, H.E. Sargent, and Sargent Corporation. From operating a one-of-a-kind 100-ton Manitowoc crane to working on notable projects like the Boise-Cascade paper mill and Loring Air Force Base, Danny’s expertise and commitment left a lasting impact. His passion for the work, love for the outdoors, and dedication to safety made him a true role model. Danny’s advice to young operators: “Apply yourself, be safe, follow the rules, and take pride in your work. It’s all about doing it right.” In retirement, Danny plans to continue his adventures outdoors with his wife, exploring Rangeley with their camper.
