It all began with a promise to a friend to make a difference in the world. After overcoming Leukemia, Derek Maxfield sought a way to fulfill his commitment. Years later, during a conversation with his wife, Shelaine Maxfield, they discussed that someone should “do something” to help adult female survivors of child sexual abuse after learning the story of a loved one. In 2014, the Maxfield family established Saprea to fight child sexual abuse and its lasting impacts through healing and prevention services. Here is their story!

Thank you to the TribeHouse Golf Tournament for having us and providing us with an opportunity to educate players on our mission. Throughout the tournament, we were able to have important conversations about the issue of child sexual abuse, our healing resources, and ways to prevent future abuse.
