Mastering the Art of the Op-Ed ???? As my J-Term comes to an end, so does an incredibly intense and inspiring 1-week seminar on improving our OpEd (e.g., columns) writing with the legendary Jeffrey Seglin—former The New York Times editor, columnist, and Harvard Kennedy School professor (emeritus). As someone who believes in the enduring power of traditional news publications, honing my writing skills has been a key goal during my time at Harvard University. And who better to learn from than the former head of our Communications Program? But here is the biggest takeaway: Writing op-eds is not some mystical black magic. ?? There are frameworks, techniques, and practical tips that anyone can follow. And, once you gain some experience, you start to see how bending and breaking these "rules" becomes part of the craft - and that is where you truly find your voice and style. ?? For anyone who dreams of contributing to the wider news landscape but does not know where to start, I am sharing a few materials and tips from Professor Seglin in the images (all officially approved, of course). ????
