    My Programmatic Advertising Journey with Madsapiens Technologies A few weeks ago, I took a leap into the world of programmatic advertising by joining the Programmatic Bootcamp organized by Madsapiens Technologies, and honestly, it’s been an eye-opening experience! Coming from a data-driven background, I was always curious about how digital advertising works behind the scenes—and this bootcamp has given me a whole new perspective. Under the mentorship of Marshall David, learning has become more than just understanding concepts; it's about thinking critically, asking questions, and staying curious. His way of teaching pushes us to dig deeper and truly grasp the ‘why’ behind every strategy and metric. It's inspiring to learn from someone who not only shares knowledge but also encourages us to explore the unknown. What I've Learned So Far: From the fundamentals to more advanced topics, I've covered a lot in a short span: Reach vs. Impressions: Understanding how many unique users see an ad versus how many times it’s displayed. Clicks & CTR (Click-Through Rate): Measuring how effectively an ad drives user interaction. CPM (Cost Per Mille): The cost of serving 1,000 impressions—one of the most common pricing models. VTR (View-Through Rate): Tracking how many users actually watch video ads till the end. Real-Time Bidding (RTB): This was a game-changer for me—learning how automated ad auctions work in milliseconds to serve the right ad to the right audience at the right time! I'm also getting hands-on experience with Google DV360, understanding how to set up and optimize ad campaigns, and diving into the roles of DSPs, SSPs, and Ad Exchanges, which form the backbone of the programmatic ecosystem. It’s amazing to see how data, technology, and strategy come together in this field, and I’m excited to keep learning and exploring more.     We kick off our TechTonic Knowledge Series with Data & Information. Data vs Information: We should be in the business of acquiring information, not data. Data are meaningless units (yes, "are". The term "data" is the plural form of "datum"). They are useless if not associated with information. Device IDs, Cookie IDs and Email IDs are meaningless units that only carry mass remarketing value.     Let’s talk about Identity Resolution! Identity resolution, in its simplest form, is a targeted effort at building a database of information about individual users. This can be the association of Personally Identifiable Information (email ID, phone number, device ID etc) to demographic information (age, gender, affluence, marital status, parental status, general location etc.) to interest based information (swimming, football, basketball, spicy food, curly hair, adventure travelling etc.). Focused efforts on making each individual user information as enriched as possible, will drive better marketing efforts than focusing on a large user pool database with less-enriched data.
