Presenting Del Prado Elementary Boca Raton Navigating the Challenges of K-8 School Photography sessions Scheduling a photography session at a K-8 school is no small feat. Between coordinating with contractors, architects, teachers, administrators, and students, finding the right time can feel like a complex puzzle. The goal is to minimize disruption while capturing the vibrant energy of the school design. Once I get the green light, the real work begins. On-site, I face the challenge of maintaining a clean, safe environment for everyone involved. This means sometimes extensive cleanup while setting up in a way that respects the space - quickly transforming classrooms and hallways into ideal spaces worthy of the portfolio, all while ensuring that students can continue their day with minimal interruption. And let’s not forget the cleanup! After wrapping up the shot, it’s essential to restore the space to its original state, leaving no trace of my presence. This attention to detail is crucial, as I want to honor the school’s environment and community. In post-production, the work continues. I sift through countless images, carefully selecting the ones that truly capture the essence of the school. Each edit takes time and precision, ensuring I present the best possible narrative. The process is challenging but incredibly rewarding. Every shoot tells a story, and I’m proud to contribute to the rich tapestry of K-8 education. Rainy Days = Rainy Assignments Today brings back memories of a rainy day at Henry S. West Laboratory School back in 2018. I found myself juggling two cameras while holding umbrellas, climbing ladders and trying to keep everything dry as the rain steadily poured. It was one of those shoots where you just have to roll with the weather! Fortunately, as the shoot came to a close, the sun made a brief and beautiful appearance, peeking out from behind the clouds to produce this most amazing rainbow. As a photographer, every project presents its own set of challenges. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a stunning new apartment community situated close to a bustling highway. While the architecture was captivating, the proximity to high-speed traffic posed a unique challenge. Standing amidst the rush of cars, capturing the exterior shots required more than just technical skill—it demanded a heightened sense of awareness and safety. Each click of the camera had to be timed perfectly between passing vehicles, ensuring both the quality of the shot and personal safety. Despite the challenges, the experience was exhilarating. It pushed me to think creatively, finding angles and perspectives that highlighted the community's unique features while minimizing the distractions of the surrounding traffic. This project reminded me of the importance of adaptability in photography. Sometimes, the most striking images require stepping out of your comfort zone, both figuratively and literally. It's about embracing the unexpected and turning obstacles into opportunities for innovation. In the end, the photographs captured the essence of the apartment community—a harmonious blend of modern living and urban energy.
