At Sandhills School, we know our students have powerful stories to tell—and today, they shared them through poetry. ?? To celebrate World Poetry Day, we transformed our campus into a cozy “StarBucks” café, complete with lattes, treats, and original student poems performed for each division. From reflections on ADHD and dyslexia to verses about belonging and encouragement, their words were as honest as they were creative. ?? “Our teachers don’t yell if you don’t know how to spell.” – Hayden L. ?? “We learn different from other schools. The teachers help you learn tools.” – Lawson S. Cheers to student voice—and the confidence that comes with having a place to shine. ?

  • #WayToGoWednesday ?? We’re proud to announce that Liam H. ‘28 has been elected Historian for the 25-26 SCISA Student Association! ?? Liam’s achievement, alongside James B. ‘25, the outgoing Parliamentarian, marks the second year in a row that Sandhills School has had a student elected to SCISA Student Government—an incredible accomplishment! Representatives from our Student Council joined over 470 students from 30 SCISA schools at the Spring Leadership Convention in Myrtle Beach. During the event, Liam campaigned confidently—connecting with peers and presenting his vision for the role. After elections, he was officially sworn into office to begin his new duties for the upcoming school year. ?????? We’re proud of both Liam and James for their leadership, dedication, and the remarkable impact they’ve made. Their achievements reflect the strength of our student leaders and the supportive community at Sandhills School. We look forward to watching them continue to lead and inspire. ??

  • All month long, our high schoolers have taken turns exploring Columbia’s Civil Rights history through the Columbia SC 63 walking tour, which highlights key moments and leaders in the city’s fight for justice and equality. Learning powerful stories of resilience and change right here in the Midlands, students saw firsthand how history shapes our present. As Black History Month comes to a close, we’re reminded that these lessons don’t end in February—they continue to shape our understanding, our community, and our future. ?? #BlackHistoryMonth #ColumbiaSC63

  • For Black History Month, Sandhills students of all ages engaged in an interactive session with leadership professional Betty Parker, CPTD exploring the importance of recognizing Black History as an essential part of American history—not as a separate event, but as a fundamental part of shaping our world. Mrs. Parker shared creative ways to explore Black history, from learning about local leaders to uncovering historical contributions that impact our daily lives. This year’s theme, African Americans and Labor, highlights Black Americans’ work and innovation—like Frederick McKinley Jones’ refrigerated truck invention, which revolutionized food transportation. A big thank you to Mrs. Parker for inspiring our students to continue learning, questioning, and celebrating Black History every day. ?? #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityInLearning

  • This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re proud to share the story of Sandhills alum Leah Monk ('24) and her impactful leadership. On MLK Day, Leah joined her Brevard College Institute for Women in Leadership peers at a community event honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. In addition to providing service to the community, Leah shared a powerful moment by reading an excerpt from Dr. King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.” Her dedication to making a difference and uplifting others is a testament to the values instilled at Sandhills School. We celebrate Leah and all those who continue to carry forward Dr. King’s legacy of service, leadership, and equality. ?? #SandhillsAlumni #OnceABuckAlwaysABuck
